The more engaged and successful the United States is in Latin America, the more it diminishes Chavez in the region as well as in the eyes of all Venezuelans.
Prophet Muhammad's victory came from his preference for diplomacy over warfare, and it is a lesson that President Obama clearly understands as he navigates international waters.
I'm not a lawyer. I can't see a law school from my house. But I know the dark, twisted, sick, fetish language in the torture memos is not what America stands for.
If we are to retain our status as a leader in the world, we must acknowledge and confront the abuse of detainees in our custody. A new declassified report makes significant progress toward that goal.
As a country, we need to emerge from this debate having placed the argument that "torture works" outside of the boundaries of acceptable political discourse once and for all.
Changing U.S. policy towards Cuba is the low-hanging fruit on President Obama's foreign policy agenda. Change can be accomplished at the stroke of a pen.
Sean Hannity's interview with Dick Cheney serves as a kind of Tom Stoppard rendition of "It's a Wonderful Life" that might take place after the lights came up and the audience left the theater.
The everyday violence that marks the life of Latin American countries is a sign that underlying structural problems persist. Handshakes and smiles will not fix this.

The reason Chavez wasn't on the list of dictators is because he isn't a dictator; he was elected by the people of his country. Chavez might be nuts, but citizens elected him into office.
At least President Obama didn't kiss him or hold hands with him, and as I recall, there wasn't one Venezuelan terrorists on any of the four airplanes that were hijacked by Al Queda on September 11, 2001, but 15 of the 19 were Saudi Arabians.
BTW, neither Saudi King Abdullah nor his fellow leaders in Middle Eastern OPEC countries sent low-priced heating oil to poor Americans like the duly elected President of Venezuela did.
Handshake ? Big deal. How petty
Bush sucked up and hugged the Saudi Royal family for years- even helped the Bin laden family out of the US after. 9 / 11. big OIL fat cats all sticks together.
