Two months ago, we ran a feature titled Six of the World's Most Beautiful Older Women. To our amazement, nearly 900 comments poured in and the piece went widely viral. Clearly a nerve had been struck.
The article was, at heart, a celebration of women's beauty at every stage of their lives. The popular perception in America seems to be that women fall off a cliff or become invisible after a certain age; the ladies we featured on our first (certainly not all-inclusive) list absolutely defy that rotten notion.
In the comments section for that piece, many of you suggested your favorite candidates for the world's most inspiring mature beauties. So we compiled a list of the most-mentioned names from the comments section, and present to you a 'People's Choice' edition of the World's Most Beautiful Older Women.
Like the women on our first list, your choices inspire the hell out of me. In fact, after doing this little project, I'm looking forward to sixty. As Holly Golightly, the ultimate glamor girl, once said:
"Wrinkles and bones, white hair and diamonds: I can't wait."

Thanks MamaLu for letting me know that Sophia was included in the first list -- obviously I missed that.
Lena Horn looks AMAZING ! she looks so regal. Jamie Lee Curtis was born in '58? she looks horrible, I was born in '55 I don't have wrinkles in my face like that. Nana said either you got it (good genes) or you don't; Jamie Lee don't
I saw her in person at a golf course in CA and her genes looked just fine to me.
Gorgeous women.
all that skin that care out the backs of their faces must be where my circumcision ended up with. is that the mystery meat in the jack in box tacos? from tacos to tacos?
Did someone forget their meds today?
When I think of beauty, I think of women who took care of themselves NATURALLY. I have nothing against theses women, but all have been worked on(plastic surgery)!!! and give a false positive, about beauty and age!!!. We need to go back to working out and enjoying a graceful aging process, this way we can enjoy the truth, and not the lie.
Exactly.
Lena Horne has never had plastic surgery or any age-reduction procedures. What you see is what you get. BTW, those are her real teeth!
Lena Horne is absolutely fabulous for a woman in her 90's--I can only wish to look half as good as her when I'm 70.
Lovely women all.
Where's Jane Fonda? And how about EmmyLou Harris? I am amazed everytime I look at either one of them.
How can you possibly omit the following ladies ?

And, you might have provided a more flattering picture of Ms. Turner:

But while we're having this discussion, why not present a post on the world's most handsome older men ? Now, THAT would be a real stretch : )
Lena Horne looks absolutely amazing for her age. WOW!.
exactly what i was going to post!!!
she is amazing!!
Lena Horne is 92?!? That is amazing. She looks like maybe 60. Come on, 30 years???
She is FABULOUS!!
She stopped aging at 60.
Someone used to say " That's waht separates the men from the boys" to me all the time, and now I'd like to turn the tides and say all of these artists are beauties that separate the women from the girls.
As long as we're adding names, how about Rosalind Chao, who's underrated in every way.
Beverly Johnson looks spectacular!
Yes she does. And so does Lena Horne at 92!
Tina Turner born in 1939????
WOW!
And a lot of people here are making comments about these ladies having had plastic surgery - but I can attest that a woman can look beautiful without it. Until my mom hit 80 she looked great and she never had any surgery, botox or anything. It wasn't until she hit 80 that she got lots of wrinkles and her skin began to sag. She was so glad to be alive though, that she didn't care. All she kept saying was: "I hope I live a good while longer."
Wow....what great pictures! Bring us more!
I personnally think an unlined face - male or female - is boring.
