Nick and Jess continue to be adorable but, if they don't watch it, risk going from this --

Shudder.

Schmidt, for his part, has managed to rather successfully juggle both Cece and Elizabeth for three full episodes. That is, until Cece comes into Jess's room while Nick is still in bed (awkward!) to voice her concerns over Schmidt, whom she thinks is on drugs. Why else would he be acting so weird?

Nick is forced to confront Schmidt, only to learn a much darker secret: that he is dating both Jess's best friend and his college sweetheart. Nick, never one to resist Jess's baby blues, spills the beans the second she gets close. She, understandably, is extremely upset and demands that Schmidt come clean -- or she will.

While all of this transpires, Winston, the fifth wheel, tries his best to snag the gang a reservation at the hottest new restaurant in town. It's not like he has a girlfriend, or a life, or anything else to do but sit there all day scaring away customers to snag seats at the communal table.

Nick, Jess, Schmidt and Cece are just about to head out to meet him when Jess asks Schmidt to tell Cece the truth. He manages to distract her and escape, instead telling Cece in the car that Nick is cheating on Jess. Cece, infuriated, demands that he head to the restaurant so she can give Nick a piece of her mind. After the world's slowest U-turn, they make it to the restaurant.

There, Cece punches Nick in the groin, only to learn from a visibly distraught Schmidt that he not only lied to her about Nick and Jess's situation, he lied to her about breaking it off with Elizabeth. Cece tells him she doesn't even know him and leaves, humiliated and broken-hearted.

Back at the loft, Schmidt gets a visit from Elizabeth. She has heard all about his shenanigans from Cece and came over to break things off. Oh, and toss pie in his face.

Schmidt, left with no girl and no one but himself to blame, blames Jess and Nick instead, and warns them that his life mission as of now is to break the two of them up.

Maybe he should enlist Winston's help. Poor guy's bored out of his mind all by himself.

"New Girl" airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
