Lily Whiteman
Lily Whiteman is the media officer for the National Science Foundation’s Directorate for Biological Sciences. Her science writing has appeared in many publications, including Audubon, US News & World Report and Discover Channel Magazine. She earned Masters degrees in Public Health and Environmental Management from Yale University, and a B.A. in Earth Science from Wesleyan University.

Sarah Bates is the media officer for the National Science Foundation’s Engineering Directorate. She has written for the Society for Neuroscience, Discover magazine, The Post-Standard newspaper, among others. Sarah has a master’s degree in magazine, newspaper and online journalism from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. She also has a master’s degree in astronomy from New Mexico State University, as well as an undergraduate degree in physics from Hendrix College.
