First Ladies have always garnered public attention. Their activism, political prowess, and style make most of them household names. Just recently, Martha Washington made headlines because historians are now trying to revamp her once frumpy image-- she apparently wore the Manolo Blahniks of her time on her wedding day and was quite beautiful and witty, despite earlier reports to the contrary. Haters!
But how well do you know your history? See if you can name these foxy former First Ladies and scroll down for the answer key. Then vote in our poll.
(Hint: seeing as this is the Style Page, I chose women that were particularly, well, stylish.)

Why is not our CURRENT first lady even on the poll?
Afraid she'd win by a mile?
They were all beautiful in their own way. Jackie of course, will always be my favorite. Loved the article and the photos.
Jackie was a stunner but Michelle rocks the house.
Wow, that is the most beautiful picture of Jackie I have ever seen.
I was thinking the same thing! That's a gorgeous picture, and I've never seen it before.
Me too! What a stunning photo, and one I'd never seen before. Jackie was always photographed looking so elegant and regal; this photo is downright sultry. Wow.
You're kidding, right? Where the hell is Frances Cleveland? She was 21 when she married Grover and the entire country had the hots for her.
Abigail Adams. She was one of the "Founding Mothers" of our country. Smart. Strong. And not bad looking either.
I do not believe that Ida McKinley should have been chosen as one of the "foxiest." Ida was a lovely young woman when she married William. But twenty-five years before she became First Lady, she had suffered the deaths of her two infant daughters and her mother. . Emotionally bereft, she developed epilepsy and suffered seizures throughout the rest of her life. When McKinley won election as Ohio's governor, she collapsed at the inaugural ball. McKinley cared very deeply for her. At public functions and dinners, McKinley would place a napkin or handkerchief over her face when she was about to have a seizure, to hid her facial contortions. Ida's health prevented her from doing much. After contracting epilepsy, she mainly stuck to her hobby of crocheting slippers and reportedly gave away "thousands" over the years. Ida looked old and sickly by the time she joined William in the White House. At public receptions, she stayed seated and held a floral bouquet, to avoid shaking hands. Her husband's assassination devastated her.
The "centennial" referred to in the article was apparently the centennial of the founding of Washington, D.C. in 1801. In view of her health, I doubt Ida took a very active role in planning the celebrations. I have read 3-4 brief biographies on-line about Ida. None mention her as being particularly stylish nor publicly active. Ida died in 1907. The entry erroneously states she was First Lady until 1907.
Frances Cleveland should be on this list. So should Ellen Arthur; she was absolutely beautiful.

(Frances Cleveland is picture after Ellen.)
Agreed! Frances Cleveland was so pretty, one of Grover's political enemies said, "I hate Grover Cleveland so much, I don't even think his wife is beautiful!" . Ellen Arther has an Ingrid Bergman thing going on!
Of course Ellen Arthur was DEAD when Chet became President. If you're going to do that, then Alice Roosevelt, SR would have to count as she was drop-dead georgious.
What? No Hillary!?! I am shocked!
This is America. When it's "only" women, looks count, brains and guts do not.
Eleanor Roosevelt was the most beautiful First Lady we ever had. And no, I am not talking about her face.
Where's Frances Cleveland? She was a fox, and her husband was the most underrated president ever.
Not saying Dolley wasn't a looker- or Mrs. Coolidge and Mrs. Carter for that matter...but
'foxiest' is certainly a title belonging to Jackie. If we're going on activism, this is still a great list, but I'd also want to add Mrs. Roosevelt or Lady Bird Johnson even...
Now, where's Mrs. Jackson?
Bar is so hott.
Personally I think that Roselyn Carter is a beautiful woman. You guys should have included Edith Wilson, she wasn't bad looking and she was the acting president for 2 years. Power is Foxy and no one had it more than Mrs. Wilson.
I thought that was Mary Tyler Moore.
Roselyn Carter DOES look like a softer featured Mary Tyler Moore.
Ditto on Mrs. Wilson.
i swear that first picture looks like an Enya album cover.
That Coolidge woman looks gorgeous. She's my pick. I never found Jackie pretty(*ducking stones!!*)
Jackie was beautiful! She was very much like Princess Dianna in popularity. JFK was so proud of her intelligence and charm that he considered her his greatest asset.
Yes, that's why he respected her and their marriage so.
I think Jackie had a distinct look but I don't think she was pretty either. Most models aren't beautiful, they have a distinct look. People shouldn't through stones because we each have our opinion on what is beautiful.
