When Randy Met Sarah

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

I am baffled by Randy Scheunemann's weird infatuation with Sarah Palin. Was it her winking that won over the bearded neo-con? Her utter lack of curiosity about foreign affairs, which probably could earn her an endowed chair at a right-wing think tank?

His efforts to cosset the vice presidential nominee broke down the McCain/Palin team into petty infighting, schoolyard-like backstabbing, and Scheunemann allegedly being fired. TNR reports he even holed himself up in a lavatory for 96 hours after it all went down. Yeah, that sounds about right.

Scheunemann always struck me as someone whose views of the world were too sketchy and scary to be taken seriously. It is fitting that he and Palin found each other. Both were plucked from obscurity and found themselves in way over their heads. Both have warped views of the world -- Palin from her perch looking across the Bering Straight at Russia -- far from the country of Africa -- and Scheunemann from his Beltway office conjuring up countries to invade (Iran, Syria, etc.). I feel further vindicated that Obama's nuanced reaction after Georgia bombed South Ossetia proved to be the right one, given the damning evidence against the Georgian military that has come to light in recent weeks. Scheunemann, like all neo-cons of his ilk, saw the conflict with Russia in black-and-white, good-versus-evil terms. Nothing could be further from the truth. Were Palin and company in the White House, U.S. troops would probably be occupying Tskhinvali right now.

Hopefully the former vice presidential nominee and Alaskan beauty queen has a position for her favorite foreign policy adviser up in her home state, where he can stare over at Russia, plotting his return to power.

As others have said in other posts, the sight of the Republican Party attempting to swallow its own tail is entertaining, and I am in no hurry to stop them. As they've noted at Red State: we will remember these people come the next election.

Did he see her in her towel? Maybe he has a crush.

I trust Nicole Wallace...

It's much more than ideology. Georgia was another false flag operation invented by the Neocons.

Please, I love the Bond movies, but I would stay away from that one if it was ever made.

With Sarah's credentials, maybe she can try out as a Bond girl?

Were Palin and company in the White House, Russian troops would probably be occupying Istanbul by now.

Never mind what they might be plotting against Russia if they both end up in Alaska, I'm worried about their designs on Canada...'course, they'd have to find it first. But I'm betting they'd take the sea route and end up in Seattle mistaking it for Vancouver. Could be wild.

She doesn't know Canada is in N. America, so maybe she's not quite ready to invade yet. Russia she can see from her back yard when Putin raises his head.

I think Randy Scheunemann's problem is that his fantasies of a "Neo-cons gone wild" Palin presidency got ahead of the more immediate problem of getting McCain elected. Tsk, tsk, tsk!

When he met her, his world fell apart. He saw the light of his life!

It apparently doesn't take much to win over a conservative of any stripe.

Can you have a man-crush on a woman? That's kind of what this feels like.

And you are leaving out the fact that Randy was (is?) a paid lobbyist for the Georgian govt.

By the way, "It is fitting that him and Palin found each other" should read "he and Palin..."

"he and Palin...that is what was written.

The appeal of SP to neocons is exactly what GWB's was...

She's an incurious blank slate who can be filled with one-sided "analysis" and will happily become a mouthpiece for the cause. (Ring a bell?)

She has demonstrated a stunningly inadequate knowledge of the world and its history (sound familiar?)

She is also quite thrilled to be the center of attention and loves being promoted as someone of importance (again, familiar?)

The Neo-cons are drooling -- the newest dupe has stepped up to the plate...

EXACTLY RIGHT!
That's what EVERY PERSON with more that one functioning neuron should have seen from the very day she walked on that stage at the RNC:
BUSH in a skirt!!! (and a pretty expensive skirt, as it turns out!)

"She's an incurious blank slate"

How do you know that? You dems say this about every Republican since Eisenhower. And your wrong about all of them.

Not at all -- there are many Republicans who I find intelligent and informed. Chuck Hagel, Richard Lugar. Lincoln Chafee -- hey, I even like listening to Pat Buchanon because while I may disagree with him, he can construct a solid, informed and compelling argument.

But Sarah Palin? Please -- even if she does realize that Africa is a continent -- her interviews with the big 3 networks demonstrated that she lacks any capacity to think on her feet, and that speaks directly to her vacuity that is ever so appealing to the Neocons.

(and don't throw out that tired "liberal media gotcha" argument. The questions she was posed were fair. She clearly was out of her league.)
