5 Boozy Beer Cocktails

Posted: 11/30/2012 10:30 am

Feel like having a drink tonight but can't decide between a beer and a cocktail? Why not have both? Adding a cold one to your evening tipple is a great way to discover a whole new world of mixology. Beer cocktails go far beyond the savory Michelada -- a mellow lager can cut sweetness, while a hoppy or sour ale adds a kick of flavor.

Whether you're a die-hard beer fan or cocktail aficionado, one of these five hopped-up libations is sure to hit the spot. (Want more recipes and articles like this in your inbox? Subscribe to Liquor.com today.)

Try this one - my grandmother loved it! Half to three-quarters beer and the rest strawberry pop (soda to some). She called it a Cincinnatti. Every once in awhile I think of her and crave one - like about once every 7-8 years! LOL

I don't know about all of you, but I don't see beer mixing well with other drinks, especially other alcohols. I see the champaign and beer mixture, for any of you that ever has a couple glasses of wine and a couple glasses of beer, you know they don't mix well and you end up with a headache. The most i have made work with beer is a couple side tequila shots.

Bloody Roman? Wow, I couldn't get past that horrible looking drink. Why not just guzzle some pasta sauce. Must people always mess with simplicity? YES

I was introduced to Red Beer a long time ago and still enjoy it once in a while. Equal parts beer and tomato juice or Clamato and maybe a dash of Worstershire.

Years ago in Texas, I encountered a local version of the above with the same name ... beer and Big Red soda (my opinion: just a bad way to ruin a good beer or a good way to disguise a bad beer).

Interesting, when I first saw the headline I thought YUCK, but some of the drinks sound pretty good.

I do love a good rich micro brew.

Try a Michelada. Delish! But don't buy the ones already made.

Many ladies in northern England sip on shandies while the men drink their lager straight.

They are really quite good.

Half beer, half "lemonade". And by lemonade they mean 7-Up or Sprite.

Very refreshing in the summer. Who woulda thought.

A bartender once grabbed OJ instead of tomato juice when making me a red beer. It was surprisingly refreshing.

I got a drink that looked like the cover shot. It was full of fruit flies. I had a few sips before I noticed. True story.

Oh my...........beer is beer and whiskey is whiskey and do NOT need any of those other things in them.........unless it's bacon bourbon then it's OK.

Great article--I often find myself drinking a beer, and wondering why I haven't added heirloom tomatoes and bitters and capers and maple syrup and a bunch of other shįt to make it taste better.

Actually, that's my preference, too, Bradley. But the beer I really favor is almost impossible to get and even my local liquor store isn't able to order it for some reason - Goesser Stiftsbrau - so I settle for the darkest I can find, be it beer or ale. I can order Stiftsbrau on the internet, but the shipping costs are ridiculous!
