How To Cocktail Video: The Brandy Alexander

Posted: 04/10/2012 10:18 am

Let us introduce you to the classic Brandy Alexander.

The rich-and-delicious concoction was invented sometime before Prohibition and was based on an earlier gin cocktail, the Alexander. It was a popular drink back then and was even common in the 1970s, but now it's basically fallen off the map.

We think the recipe is due for a revival. It's an ideal nightcap and requires just three ingredients: cognac, dark crème de cacao and heavy cream.

In the short video below, Liquor.com advisory board member and talented bartender Dushan Zaric shows you the right way to make the standard. So help us bring back the Brandy Alexander by fixing one tonight. Cheers!

I forgot all about the drink Brandy Alexander. We use to drink it back in the 60's and 70's?

The recipe varies a bit depending on what part of the counrty you're in. The heavy cream is used on both coasts, while ice cream is preferred in the midwest. Also although Cognac is brandy, some prefer to use brandy from Califorina, Germany or Spain.
