Any self-respecting cocktail lover should always have a few items on hand: a shaker, a muddler, a juicer and some big ice cubes. And, especially in the summer, a bag of ripe limes.
Unlike its citrus siblings lemon and orange, lime brings a balance of sweet and sour to a drink. And that's why it's an essential part of tropical classics like the Daiquiri and Margarita.
So we selected from our recipe library a few summery drinks you may not have made before that call for fresh lime juice. Mix one up the next time you're relaxing on the porch or by the pool.

Start with a tall and slim "high-ball" glass, drop in two "scoops" of your favorite lime sherbet(or sorbet),next add one to one and a half "jiggers"(fluid ounces) of Smirnoff 100 proof Vodka, then carefully add 7-up or Sprite, until glass is about 3/4 full. That should be about the "max" fill point, because you'll notice that the 7-up will cause a nice frothy "head" to foam up and begin to spill over.
Give it a few gentle stirs with a "swizzle stick",add a straw to drink and enjoy!
I call it a "Velvet Frog"! (Because when made right, you can't really taste the vodka, but after a couple, you'll be hoppin'!)
(P.S. You can substitute just about any flavor of sherbet or sorbet instead of lime, and the result is just as yummy! Orange, raspberry,or even rainbow sherbet work just as well...tried and true!) ;)
