Prop 8 was confusing. Courtney Love is often confused. But this is really insane.

From her friends-only blog, CLove seems to be celebrating the passage of the same-sex marriage ban:

blown away

Current mood: bouncy

That prop 8 passsed! motherfuckers! who voted against it!
it was confusing language in malibu there were kids reminding us to vote yes thatthe language was conbfusing and people were votingno when they meant yes or soemthin

And just so you don't think I'm picking on Courtney or making this up here's the screen shot of her blog

These propositions are written in such a confusing way, intentionally I think. We had a similar prop on our ballot as well, and it took me 3 reads of the sample ballot and several websites to finally get that voting no would kill the prop and allow same sex here in FL. Sometimes you get in there and wonder, "If I vote now, is it a yes or is yes a no?"

Someone should conduct a survey of California voters asking them which way they voted and what they thought their vote meant. If it turns out that a significant percentage of voters mistakenly voted the wrong way, that information might be helpful in the legal challenges that are already being planned.

They did and 70% of the Black population voted yes on 8. Another example of Church's using anti-Christian positions and calling themselves Christians. Not to mention minorities beating up on each other.

You're just talking about the regular exit polls. I'm talking about a survey in which voters are not only asked which way they voted, but if they realized that voting "YES" was a vote against gay marriage. As far as I know, no such survey has been conducted.

Yea they are hypocrites and pounded their own (me). So. It is time to let it go. Time to dust off and re-group. Sure, we are hurt, our lives interrrupted, and if you live in a small town like mine you are openly scorned as the women who put out the No on Prop 8 signs. But, I would rather define my own humanity by my own values and not the values of others who have disappointed me. I have decided that I can want freedom and equality for other people even if they did not want it for me because, well, it is simply that I believe in Equality for all people....so, I am going to follow my heart.

I was thinking the same thing. Courtney love might make a valuable witness, actually.

I'm still confused. I actually think she meant they were mo-fos for PASSING it? Or maybe not... maybe the rest of CA was just as confused as Courtney

i think this is symbolic of what i think happened and nobody is talking about. in spite of all the ads, people thought that a "yes" vote was FOR gay marriage and a "no" vote was against it. yes, i know information was flooding the airwaves... but still i honestly believe a lot of people voted backwards unintentionally.

I wondered about that too, and I'm seeing that I'm not the only one. I fight the religious right for a living and am constantly looking at and listening to the information they put out, so I knew what a "YES" vote meant, but I was very worried that this wouldn't be clear to the average voter. Unfortunately, the natural inclination to assume that "YES" means you're in favor of allowing something and "NO" means your against allowing it probably did affect the voting of those who didn't read the proposition carefully. The churches, religious right organizations, and Christian radio stations incessantly drummed "Vote YES" into the heads of their minions for months, so the people who really did oppose gay marriage knew what their "YES" vote meant. I'm not so sure about the rest of the voters.

Also, for someone driving by a bright yellow (gayish color) that has two people that you can barely see one does have a "skirt" on (because all moms I know all wear skirts all the time). It almost looks like two men holding hands with their children. I have also heard of quite a few people who have apologized to gays because they thought they were voting for them.

Well, at least those Churches still have their religious freedom...except for the churches who were against the proposition. Their religious freedom has been taken away. Too bad for them and for us scary, frightening, tax-paying gays!

I am a white 61 year old woman from Texas (Liberal). I am not a lesbian, but I believe that anyone should have the right to get married, have children, regardless of sexual preference. I, too, was watching this proposition on HuffPo, hoping that it would not be overturned, but I must admit that the wording was extremely confusing. I had to read it several times to understand the meaning of yes vs no. It was not clear!!!!!!

I think there are grounds, based on this alone, to have the vote legally contested. I hope something can be done. Also wondered did the Mormon church overstep it's tax-exempt status by spearheading this!

You know, it makes sense...

The ads for Prop 8 were touting that the proposition was to protect marriage. People may have thought that they were protecting the right to marry... Sounds silly to confuse it though, but I can see how that may have happened.

I think she was high when she wrote that - seriously, her ramblings are even more incoherent than Princess Caribou.
