#OccupyWallStreet: What They Want (VIDEO)

Posted: 10/17/11 06:06 PM ET

On the same day as the NYC book launch of "Left, Right and Christ: Evangelical Faith in Politics," I visited Zuccotti Park with Jim Wallis and Tim King. We interviewed several participants in the #OccupyWallStreet encampment.

Meet Drew! He answered an ad in early August for the Occupy Wall Street organizing core. He came back week after week for more organizing meetings. Now he's quit his job as a graphic web designer and is helping to run the Occupy Wall Street website. In this clip, Jim Wallis (CEO, Sojourners), asks Drew what is it that the occupiers want. I film the interview.

I watched one of your other interviews on Youtube. I commend you for modeling what all evangelical Christians should be doing now. You're listening. As we listen, we can hear the echos of the New Testament in the cries against greed and for economic justice and we can humbly speak of Christ's empathy. More here:

Every sine I've been on HuffPost I have been saying what Tim King said, Air, Food, Water and Health Care should be free to every US citizen paid for by equal nation wide taxation. The desires, the stuff made for selling, could be free if the nation took on the government without money like the Indigenous Americans had prior to the European occupation of this land. The Preamble to the constitution suggests it and with money it's still possible.

The problem with doing it, it require "a more prefect union" which doesn't allow for classes and "equal justice for all" which means appropriate entitlements for actions. Just because someone comes up with an idea doesn't means he should enslave people to make himself rich, owners and workers should get the same pay irrespective of position. All people employing others were originally required to have the nation's interest in mind, today it has turned to self interest, so Occupy Wall Street wants the corrupt governors replaced by governors who aren't committing TREASON by ignoring their oath to protect the constitution so the nation can accomplish the Preamble's goals.

There are as many different goals as there are people in the movement. But one theme threads through it all. That theme is fairness and equality. Everyone has a voice, everyone is listened to respectfully and no one is more important than anyone else. People should have an equal chance to have a decent life, with a living wage, health care, sufficient food and maybe a little left over for the kids allowance. We just want our kids to have the same chance we did, and what we see is the corporate greed leading to things like the bailouts, and the buying of American politics. I see the education system failing and my own son ended up not getting a diploma because his special education program didn't provide him with what he needed to learn. He was looking at 3 more years in High School with no guarantee of a diploma. How many kids are out there like him? There are 5.8 kids in Special Education in the is country. Only about 30% of those kids graduate with a diploma. 30% of 5.8 million kids. Something has to be done. It may not make a profit or effect the bottom line, but our kids are screaming for help and no one is listening. And the Republican/Tea Party's answer is to do away with the Dept, of Ed. Enough is enough. That's why I joined the movement.
