WATCH: "A Short Film About Guns"

Posted: 07/12/2012 11:54 pm

"A Short Film About Guns" examines the illegal arms trade and how it functions across the globe.

The short film, directed by Minos Papas, features four experts on arms trafficking who recount their varying first hand experiences with the black market trade in areas of conflict and how the illegal flow of weapons facilitates loss of life and devastation.

As the first Arms Trade Treaty is currently being negotiated at the United Nations, the four experts call on all governments to get a deal made and agree on a legally-binding arms treaty.

Greek-Cypriot director Minos Papas recently partnered with the Control Arms coalition, including Oxfam International, to produce the short film. The online release is aligned with the UN Diplomatic Conference on the Arms Trade Treaty, currently held in New York through July 27th.

The film features four experts on arms trafficking, each testifying on their individual experiences with illegal gun trade.

These experts include:

· Kathi Lynn Austin, arms trafficking investigator, director of Conflict Awareness Project.
· Ishmael Beah, former Sierra Leonean child soldier, author of "A Long Way Gone: memoirs of a Boy Soldier".
· Paul Conroy, Sunday Times war photographer, recently injured while working in Syria.
· Stuart Franklin Platt, Rear Admiral US Navy (ret.), author of "Letters From the Front Line"

The film was shot in London, New York City and Seattle.

As his short film was being released, Minos Papas said:

I produced this video to partake in the momentous campaign to create a legally binding Arms Trade Treaty that will regulate the sale of weapons and ammunition. The Control Arms coalition, which includes Oxfam, is calling for a strong treaty that will really save lives.

At the moment, the Arms Trade Treaty conference is getting good coverage in the international media, but I strongly believe this video could give the necessary push to put this issue on everyone's minds. Diplomats have ten days to go and truly change the world. Let them know we are watching them.

The video is a crock of UN propaganda. It was produced with a hit parade of gun control advocates in London, New York City and Seattle. I don't suppose this video is being shown to the defenseless and beleaguered people of Syria who are -- now and as we speak -- being forbidden by UN Secretary General Annan, U.S. Secretary of State Clinton, and the thuggish member nations of the UN from arming and defending themselves while having to face down a brutal and murderous Assad regime. The American people and the U.S. Senate are firmly against being dragged into this fraudulent scheme to impose more gun control “under the radar” (Obama’s own words to Sarah Brady).

The US needs to leave this ALONE! Do you really believe the Obama administration wants to protect the Second amendment rights?
quote: "After all, I bet a lot of people thought Obama was serious about stopping the warrantless wiretapping, when it turns out he is fighting to keep it by utilizing the tired state secret claim despite the testimony of former NSA employees.
I bet a lot of people thought he was serious about stopping the medical marijuana raids, the countless wars (which show no signs of stopping), the overwhelming lobbyist influence in Washington and submitting his administration to a previously unknown level of transparency..."

We are a sovereign nation/republic..it's OUR Constitution that will allow us to remain apart and above the directives of The UN. The UN and any other foreign party, need to peddle that nonsense to the regimes who have been committing genocide and other atrocities against those who could NOT have arms to protect themselves.

Treaty, shmeaty. The US government, even if it wanted to, can not overrule the supreme court ruling granting the individual rights to bear arms. And there is no sign of any appetite by the federal government to even consider such an action.

By some standards I fall into the "liberal/progressive" camp, but firearms is not one of them. I ran my then 11 and 14 year old son and daughter through NRA Basic Rifle last August. I ran my son through NRA Basic Pistol last April, around his 12th birthday. I am running my daughter, who is now 15, through NRA basic pistol on Monday. I was in a rifle team as a kid and my wife was trained on an AK47.

I work in software security and like essentially all my peers, have a few firearms - 3 pistols, 3 rifles, and a 12 gauge shotgun.

Treaties are, under the Constitution, to be treated as "the Supreme Law of the Land". This treaty would, in other words, override the 2nd Amendment.

Which is why the Obama Regime wants it...
