Sally Ride is and always will be the first American woman in space. It's still a thundering feat. When she died this week at age 61 of pancreatic cancer, her obituary -- and a Buzzfeed interview with her sister Bear Ride -- said that Sally left behind her partner of 27 years, Tam O'Shaughnessy, who also worked as her co-author and business associate.
This was the first time Ride's LGBT status had ever been acknowledged, and in today's Weeklings! I discuss why her "coming out" is both a triumph and a little bit of a head-scratcher. I also make enough astronomy jokes to render you weightless with laughter/contempt.
