SoCal's Finest: Tequila, Tennis and Thoroughbreds

Considering I've lived in Los Angeles for over five years, it's pretty pathetic how little of California I've actually taken the time to go and visit. So when a friend (a very well-travelled, chic friend, with impeccable taste in restaurants and wine) said that Rancho Valencia was an absolute must,...

Keep Austin Weird

Meet anyone from Austin, Texas, and I can guarantee two things: 1. They'll be really proud of their city (they're not from 'Texas', they're from 'Austin'), and 2. They'll be the most warm and welcoming barrel of laughs you can imagine hanging out with.

Stab a pin into the...

A bath fit for Marilyn and a bar fit for the Rat Pack? There's only one place to go in Beverly Hills for that, says Louise Roe

There's something unbelievably decadent about staying the night at a hotel in your own hometown. So when I was taken, for a special anniversary, to the Peninsula in Beverly Hills, I felt like a kid in a candy store.

I've been lucky enough to visit a bunch of different...

Sun, Sand and...Soup? Summer's Arrived!

(0) Comments | Posted May 19, 2013 | 12:05 AM

Summer is arriving thick and fast in LA: the evenings are staying sunnier, weekends are for the beach and my sweaters have all-but-one-hoodie been packed into a box. I love this time of year. But the warmer weather gets me thinking about being bikini-ready, getting on a healthier diet and...

Festival Fashion

I'm planning my trip to Coachella Music Festival right now -- and my dressing room could be a trailer from 1970's Woodstock. The floor is strewn with paisley prints, tasseled-scarves, Aztec-inspired woven clutches and wide-brim hats: Talitha Getty eat your heart out! So here are the items I've decided to...

Pass Me an Elk Dog... Louise Roe Uncovers the Best of Aspen... and It's All About Going Local

(0) Comments | Posted March 25, 2013 | 7:28 PM

I must admit, I landed in Aspen with a plethora of pre-conceptions. As an avid skier, I was itching to hit the slopes -- but also warily ready to navigate some snooty fur coats and boulder-sized diamonds on every snow-lined street. A playground of the super-rich, Aspen is home to...

Bora Bora: So Good They Named It Twice

(1) Comments | Posted December 18, 2012 | 6:00 AM

The first thing that really made an impact on me when I first arrived in Bora Bora wasn't the vivid stripes of cobalt and turquoise water lapping against the island, nor the sweet, intoxicating smell of Tiare, a local flower decorating everything from the airport counters to local ladies' ears....

Not many hotels have a resident cultural and spiritual manager, but while waiting for my morning banana and peanut butter smoothie, I met Earl Regidor, who is just that for the Four Seasons Hualalai at Kona on Hawaii's Big Island.

There are some moments in my life's memories, when hotels have truly created a fairytale. You feel hypnotized into an other-worldly environment of luxury, glamour and tradition. Old-fashioned afternoon tea at the Savoy in London, for example. Cocktails on the deck at the Ritz-Carlton in Cannes, is another. Warming up...
