Introducing Collections

Posted: 09/15/11 02:35 PM ET

I want to introduce a new addition to the social tools at Huffington Post: the Collections feature. Now available to all HuffPost users, it allows you to save your favorite articles and blog entries to easily find them later, share them with your friends and follow what others are collecting. The best collections may be featured around the site, so build ones that both you and others find useful, interesting and unique.

Check out the slides below to see collections in action and, as always, let us know what you think of the new feature. We're all ears for new ideas that you'd like to see in the future.

One of the features that I now miss on The HP was being able to go back a few days and check on a blog and it's comments. This new feature may just be the answer to my frustration. Good luck with it and I hope it works out very well.

PS I have been a critic of how The HP has become way too bloated but I must admit that I am enjoying the tech site more and more. Keep up the good work.

I'm unable to create a New Collection. I'm having to put items in the "Favorites". That's fine for now, but as I add other topics, I'll need other categories.

This is similar to having "Bookmarks". Good idea.

Could you explain the problem a bit more? You should be able to create a new article collection from the drop-down menu on any article page.

Thanks for responding, robertgorell. I saw earlier that you have multiple collections. Obviously, I'm doing something wrong.

On any page, I use the drop-down menu, choose "create", put in a title for a new collection and hit the "Create" button. I've tried to do it from my "Social News" page, as well. The only Collection I have to choose is the "Favorites".

Am I embarrassingly dense?

Off topic, but I have a "tech" concern. What in the heck is going on with the Huffington Post site? I have emailed, made a couple comments elsewhere, and have received no answer, suggestion or any kind of response. Is this an indication of the direction for quality control under the new direction of this once well-maintained website?

Hi there,
We don't have any record of contact from the email on file for you. Sometimes folks send messages to the wrong department and it doesn't make it to the right place. Support staff doesn't review messages in the comments sections, so best to send issues via the Contact us page, and choose the appropriate category when sending.
I'll send a message to the email we have on file, so no need to use the contact page this time.

Have the same problem and DO use the "Contact Us" links.

I've never received an answer from "TECH" or any other link I've clicked to ask a question or offer a suggestion. It's like talking to the ether.

MacGregor, I am 68m rorally disabled, and am having some dificulties here at HP.
I cannot benifit from reporting sensorship on the contact form, because they only use my gmail account. Gmail has changed over time, and I am no longer able to access my gmail account. Also, I cannot seem to find a way to change my email on my HP Pod-gers account.

I wish I could change my email on Pod-gers w/o losing my fans, comment history, etc? Can you help with this?

Hi Pod-gers, you should be able to change the email address on the contact form, but you can also change your email address on file by going here:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/users/preferences/
And scroll down to the email field.
You won't lose your fans or comment history by doing this. Please let me know if this works.

Terrific. I write a comment about the tech problems I'm having with this site, and it gets dropped and not printed.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I have not tried your suggestion yet. I have just had to change computters. Now I have another problem. The little comments drop box on the right side is not showing up, so I have no way to read the comment and then click reply and then be taken to the comment on the thread.

Is there some preference, or other thing I am supposed to do so that little comment box returns?

Thanks for your assistance, Kathy

How do you determine what the most interesting collections are? Is there criteria?

Is there going to be a function so we can retrieve all the comments that were deleted because they "offended" the mods?

Great Idea. This would help me out, I think I get too carried away sometimes, but would like to know just where the line is... Fanned you for this one.
