Senator Biden's Night

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

This was Senator Biden's night.

Given the challenges our nation now faces, we need a vice president who can be persuasive with foreign leaders, tough with congress, and relentless in his drive to serve the American people. Tonight, Joe Biden showed why he is the right person for that job.

On question after question, he demonstrated knowledge, careful thought, and a willingness to make hard decisions. And with every answer, he vindicated Senator Obama's judgment and showed why he is considered one of our nation's wisest and most experienced leaders.

He was equally at home with global and local issues, demonstrated an amazing grasp of facts, and gave proof that he is prepared to be a partner who will contribute much as vice-president to solving our nation's problems.

Americans could not help but conclude that any president would be stronger and more confident with Joe Biden by his side.

I agree with you. Senator Biden tonight showed his grasp of critical national and international issues. He also knows how to pronounce, "Nuclear."

That's true, but to Palin's credit she had to translate nuclear for all the "Joe Sixpacks" that she likens herself to!

Also Sarah Palin did not also say anything that I could also agree with or also understand, also. But, that is just also my opinion, also.

Joe Biden is eminently qualified. He's the kind of leader you want negotiating in your interests. Kudos to him tonight on a job well done.

Joe Biden kicked some little ass tonight, to paraphrase Bush Sr. Haha, the Republican party has run out of thunder, flash, flint, matchsticks, ideas. They've overused that tax and spend mantra they've been using against the Democrats while exploiting the government coffers for themselves. The Republicans are the reason we are in the mess we're in now. Once again, a pair of Demorats will fix their mess. America, when will we ever learn. Mr. Biden, you were superb!

Thank you for saying that! We've HAD the guy "you could sit down and have a beer with" - which is what he should have done. Molly Ivins said he was fun. I believe her. But he was the WORST president EVER.

There is a whole lot to be said for having a couple of leaders who are super smart, kind hearted, visionary, and have roots with us all but smarter than us all. Wow - that could be VERY fine!

If the US had foreign troops on the Canadian and Mexican border every American would want our nukes. Well, Iran is in this situation. It would be refreshing if we had a politician that recognized that the majority of the Iranian people want closer ties with us, want a more westernized society, has a median age of about 23. We need a diplomatic tack, not a "bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran" approach.

imus

Good points. All this saber rattling at iran is not productive. Most of that population would like to live in peace and get on with real life.

At one time, not too long ago, before the BUsh fiascos, there was talk of tipping that regime. While that point has passed for now, it would make sense for us to take a different approach.

Cowboy diplomacy is just another word for FEAR. It takes courage and intelligence to find solutions that don't start with a gun pointed at someone.

Madame Secretary, once again you point out the diplomatic, non-verbal, emotive and engaging qualities that will be imperative in restoring our reputation with the rest of the world. You demonstrated that these skills are not gender based, in fact you threw in an extra measure of hawk in your time, but at this time it is Biden that can carry the diplomatic flag.

I have been saying for some time that Sarah Palin has received more coverage in 5 weeks than Joe Biden has in 35 years, but tonight people are saying " Who the hell is this guy and where did he come from ?" If anyone had doubts about Obama, Joe Biden converted them tonight. Time for a donation to the Obama campaign.

And if I hear her say "Eye-rack" one more time, I'm gonna go spare!

Eye-rak, Eye-ran, and let's not forget nuke-you-lur. All she did was remind people of George Bush.

But she has nailed, "betcha"!

Everytime I hear someone talking down in a folksy, gee aw shucks manner, I know they are conscious of their lack of intellect, and want a few more handicap points and mulligans than one is otherwise entitled in hope of overcoming their shortcomings. Sarah is in no way anywhere near being ready for this job she's applying for.

Ohmigosh, I'm watching the repeat on CNN (I missed the original broadcast), and I just heard Palin say "nuke-yoo-lar" just like Dubya!!! AARRRGGGHHHH!!!

Just a note to Itai, No one is laughing at Sarah Palin. I never have. This election is not a laughing matter. Comedians with say what they will if given ammunition. I still find her pathetic. She is not qualified to be the VP nominee still. She was just a bunch of talking points from speeches and sound bites. Apparently practice helped her alot, but she did not debate. She spoke on what she chose to . She even told the moderator she would not answer the given questions. What in the hell is America coming to? When during a VP debate does one of the candidates can decide what questions they will answer and what sound bites they will deliver over and over and over again. She presented nothing that would make me vote for her and her running mate.

Yes, this is what bothered me the most. She did not debate. She ignored the questions asked. Why is that OK? Like others have said, I think the real Palin is the one Katie Couric interviewed. I don't care for a candidate who wears her poor verbal skills like a badge of honor, who winks at me during a DEBATE and who smirks while her opponent answers.

Thank you, Madame Secretary, for this second statement in praise of the Obama/Biden ticket. Joe Biden showed us all tonight what a knowledgeable statesman he represents as the vice presidential nominee. We are truly fortunate to have Barack Obama and Joe Biden step forward during this time of great trouble in our nation.
