Senator Biden's Night

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

This was Senator Biden's night.

Given the challenges our nation now faces, we need a vice president who can be persuasive with foreign leaders, tough with congress, and relentless in his drive to serve the American people. Tonight, Joe Biden showed why he is the right person for that job.

On question after question, he demonstrated knowledge, careful thought, and a willingness to make hard decisions. And with every answer, he vindicated Senator Obama's judgment and showed why he is considered one of our nation's wisest and most experienced leaders.

He was equally at home with global and local issues, demonstrated an amazing grasp of facts, and gave proof that he is prepared to be a partner who will contribute much as vice-president to solving our nation's problems.

Americans could not help but conclude that any president would be stronger and more confident with Joe Biden by his side.

I completely agree, and Senator Biden made me really like him. Governor Palin did well, except when she changed the format to her own agenda.

Joe has class, and he showed that. I just question the rights' thinking when their tactics give me a better impression of my own candidate! How do they always make the wrong choice? I mean, "Sarah being Sarah" means snippy attacks and more talking points I guess.

I have to Agree with everything she said in this post, Madeline that is, My confidence lays with Joe Biden and Barack Obama!! I would feel safest with them as Our leaders
I feel very unsafe with even the thought of the McCain /Palin ticket running this country!!

Joe Biden was articulate, experienced and sincere. He gave Obama credit for his past performance and spoke about Obama's future policies. He didn't speak as if HE was running for the presidency.

Sarah Palin has demonstrated that she is more about Sarah Palin than the country. When she lived in Alaska she and her husband were both members of a separatist party that believed in seceding from the union. Now that she is running for the Vice Presidency she has totally reversed herself and now BELIEVES in the union. She is more concerned with Sarah Palin then in this country. She is no patriot.

I absolutly agree with you 1000% she was very self centered in this Debate and showed much concern of Her own Self and the what she dids then her Running Mate McCain. Biden showed Respect to Obama and let it be known he will know his position in the Office I was totally impressed with Him!
GO JOE

It's apparent to any American voter that is concerned about the issues facing America today that the change agent is Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Senator Biden was knowledgeable, understood the critical issues and showed passion, substance, sincerity and humility. Even though Governor Palin was way out of her league - Senator Biden was respectful to her.

Senator McCain is way out of touch with the Economy, Foreign Affairs and also forgetful on the factgs.. Arizona is a nice place to retire - and I wish Senator McCain a long life in Sedona. Naturally I wish Governor Palin the best and hope she continues to do a good job as Governor of Alaska. I hope America WAKES UP and votes in November for the OBAMA/BIDEN ticket.

God Bless America.

Shorter Debate

Part I: Palin did not answer questions directly.

Part II: Biden incredibly strong--pointed out Palin "I heard no plan" on Iraq, very strong on economic and FP issues.

Veep issue devastating against Palin--actually claimed broader powers for VP, clearly without knowing actual constitutional powers. Biden powerful on Cheney--dials way up.

And then...The turning point. The Biden tears. After that, Biden was most clear, passionate and strong, and from there, Palin was gibberish.

Biden win.

Update:

CNN:

National poll of Debate Watchers:

Who won:

Biden: 51%

Palin: 36%

Senator Biden was good. I could be comfortable with him in the VP slot. He answers were clear and concise and with common sense, something that I have not seen in government in a long time.

Palin basically, like McCain and Bush before, scares the bejesus out of me. I don't know why but I see our country as a third world one by the end of their administration.

Heck it is there now when you have people losing their homes and living in tents like in Las Vegas and Seattle. One more screw up by people like Bush and the rest of us will join them.

No Contest. Americans could see that Joe has the heart and mind and experience for the job - and the top job. He was my Senator and Amtrak mate for several years -- and I did eat with him like anybody else who happened by could at diners in Trolley Square (where his daughter waitressed) and Union Street. And the "Shining City on a Hill" quote is Massachusetts Colonial Gov. John Winthrop's - not Ronald Reagan's.
Gee, I guess the Past IS Prologue. You betcha!

You must be the one living in the alternate universe. Sarah was simplly fantastic tonight. As Dick Morris, Clinton's favorite pollster just said Sarah Palin was a superstar tonight. The best performance since Ronald Reagan. She is simply so genuine says Joe Lieberman, Gore's VP nominee. Stop drinking your Kool Aid delvis; Sarah cleaned his clock.

Madam Secretary, your opinion & your words establish that you have the dignity & the rhetorical skills to be confirmed as an elder statesman of your party. Your judgment assures that you'll be annointed as an old pol too. It did not hurt that you made accurate judgments of Sarah & Joe, either.

Biden stayed on point and acted like an adult. Palin didn't.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:26 PM on 10/02/2008

The only point Joe stayed on was the traditional Democratic hack point. Sarah was simply superb. Average Americans relate to her. Let's see what the polls do now.

Are you serious? There's a difference between talking about "average americans" and BEING an average American. The only thing she proved was how well she could memorize a few (false) talking points, even at the expense of not answering the question or being all over the place.

Those folksy moments were fake and flat. If she were as down to earth as she claimed, her response to Biden's remarks over his family wouldn't have been to ignore the subject and tell us yet again that McCain is such a maverick.

She's as fake as he is and she proved it once and for all, live on television.

Gosh doggone it. Palin only pleases two types of people. Idiots and far right kool aid drinkers. Nornal people like to see a spot of intellect....just a touch.

One of the prevailing fears seemed to be that Biden would be so hard on Palin that he would be seen as bullying her. But the strategy of sticking to McCain's policies and tying them to Bush was brilliant. Palin clearly did not have the information to rebut anything Biden said about McCain's votes. Biden was there, he knew what the issues were, he's had a passport for decades. He came off knowledgeable, trustworthy, and straightforward. She just kept saying "taxes, Wall Street greed, reform, energy independence, jobs" even after it was obvious she was not basing her comments on anything other than talking points. She was repeating what she was told because that's all she knows. And I don't get where she was going with the Washington insider thing because she is running with one.

And what was with the winking??? And the whole anti-media thing? She was a journalism major! Have some respect and understand that it is the duty of a public servant to answer questions, just as it is the duty of the media to ask them. Besides, evil Katie Couric did not force her to say idiotic things. She dug her own hole.

...How?

She barely answered any questions, and when she did, she was wrong at best and just plain ignorant at worst. She looked like a deer caught in headlights FIFTEEN MINUTES into the debate, and appeared to be BSing for dear life for the remainder...when she wasn't agreeing with Obama.

when Palin speaks, people pause. Transfixed by her self-parody caricature. Then those moments of attempting to decipher what she just said.

Then you just LAUGH!!!!

People are going to laugh all the way to the voting booth. Sarah Palin just showed why she was selected to be Senator McCain's running mate. As shown in Frank Luntz's undecided survey group the vast majority of the people felt that Sarah won the debate. Those who decided their vote tonight in that group were overwhelming for McCain-Palin. Go Sarah.

Lutz' poll was the only one that indicated that...all the others showed the opposite. And the polls from the battleground states are tilting Obama.
