Vote No on Prop 8

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

I did this while I was really sick because it was very important to me. Between takes I was nearly fainting, but I guess you can't really tell. Good lighting goes a long way. Please vote NO on PROP 8.

I'm so tired of paying taxes in this bigoted-ass fuc$ing country. Why am I paying taxes so these heteros can vote my rights away? This is total bull$hit. All the gay people need to get to together and file a class action lawsuit against the IRS in Federal court. Marriage exempt = tax exempt.

WHEN SAME SEX MARRIAGE WAS A CHRISTIAN RITE
http://www.colfaxrecord.com/detail/91429.html

As the churches struggle with the issue of homosexuality, a long tradition of gay marriage indicates that the Christian attitude towards same sex unions may not always have been as "straight" as is now suggested, writes Jim Duffy.
A Kiev art museum contains a curious icon from St. Catherine's monastery on Mt. Sinai. It shows two robed Christian saints. Between them is a traditional Roman pronubus (best man) overseeing what in a standard Roman icon would be the wedding of a husband and wife. In the icon, Christ is the pronubus. Only one thing is unusual. The "husband and wife" are in fact two men.

The Mormon church has been a vocal opponent to proposition 8. I am fed up with self-righteous people hell-bent on pushing their values on others. Discrimination is intolerable. Since the Mormons, the Catholic church, and others are pushing political agendas, I'd suggest that the U.S. government eliminate their special tax-exempt status. Then they can be as vocal as they want and help pay down the national debt at the same time. Sounds heavenly to me...

Article XIV of our Constitution states:

No state shall deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of the law; nor deny any person within its jurisdiction the EQUAL protection of the laws.

This is our Constitution so why is this even a proposition? If this proposition passes I will not have equal protection and I will be denied the liberty to live my life freely. What they are trying to do is against the law. Why doesn't our California legislatures just cite this as justification for not allowing people to vote on it?

Hey there!
Causecast has created an amazingly inspirational video in support of No on PROP 8 based on Harvey Milk's "You Cannot Live On Hope Alone" speech. I would love to see this go viral on the web, and believe it has the appeal to do so with help from the right sites.

Check it out!

Thanks!

Steamboater is right - we need money for no on Prop 8! Out of state interests are flooding in. I've created a poster (and yard sign and bumpersticker ) at defendequalitynow.com and all proceeds go to No on 8!

AND Philanthropist Steve Bing and Equality California are offering a ONE MILLION DOLLAR CHALLENGE GRANT so the new ad can reach California"s undecided voters. Every donation before midnight on Sunday, October 19 will be doubled!

I don't understand the fear of Gay marriage. It wasn't that long ago when people of different races weren't allowed to marry. If you let majority rule to overturning our laws, we would still have slavery not because the majority want slavery but because the scared, hateful and ignorant people are the ones the show up to vote and make the most noise. We need to bring back peace and love and get rid of hate and war. Spread the word. Get people to vote NO on prop 8.

The religous right are bigots who are filled with hate. They believe marriage is so sacred but many of the same people who are proponents of prop 8 have commited adultery and are have probably been divorced since the divorce rate is better than 50%. This is about equality. My partner and I have been together for 8 years and weI would love to be able to marry. Right now we feel like second class citizens because we don't feel equal to heterosexual couples. No one should be suppressed, and discrimination does not belong in our constitution. The way I see it, if the proponents to prop 8 don't want to live in a free country where equality trumps all, then maybe they should move to Iran or some other religiously driven country. This is America, the land of the free. That means freedom for all, the freedom to live a gay life, a happy life. Who are they to tell us we can't? I will never stop fighting until we are treated equal

Vote NO on prop 8...PLEASE

KEVAARI SNOWFLAKES

I said it once I'll say it again.

If Gays are not allowed to get married then Gays should not have to pay taxes.

Therefore, they better allow Gay marriages because if they don't everyone will want to be Gay.

Let's see the wingnuts try to figure that out!

I don't believe in gay marriage. I don't believe in any marriage. Why? Because I'm not religious and I recognize that marriage is a religious ritual. For all but the recent history religion and the state were synomymous. The trend is for goverment to be secular in the modern day, and I'm glad of it. If some groups want to form communities and require specific beliefs, that's their business. I like for groups to have as much autonomy in what they believe and practice as say as possible, provided it's obeying laws established to protect individual rights and freedoms. Screw the religionists who think that religion deserves protection beyond their right to believe in what they want. Eject the word "marriage", and identify those aspects which are relevant to personal rights and ownership, and liabilities and protect consenting adults. It's my business who recieves the benefits of a spouse.
I also think churches should pay taxes so that they can do and say what they want in their church and if someone doesn'l like that a church won't allow them to get married, they'd be perfectly welcome to form their own church. If we'd get rid of the sacred cow of "not taxing the churches", who'd care if someone wants to start their own for whatever reason. Have at it. But after you've had a ritual and cut the cake, it's still totally unrecognized as legal until they sign the paper, which should read as a contract between consenting adults.

Thanks Margaret, for as always, being a great friend to the LGBT community. What I wish supporters of Prop. 8 would realize, is that if the intolerant hate groups take away my rights today, tomorrow they will come for your rights. I also have a suggestion to counter the "Propagation of the species" argument against Gay marriage:

If reproduction is the "only" reason why heterosexual marriage is so sacred, then make a law annulling all marriages that don't produce children within a reasonable time period- say between 2-5 years. No? Don't like that one huh? Then consider letting people live their lives, and worry about your own salvation. What a concept.

I tried this once before, but I think the best way to deal with the "Yes on Prop 8" crowd is to quote Tina Fey as Sarah Plain on SNL: "Marriage is a sacred vow between two unwilling teenagers"
