McCain Calls Kettle Black, Again

If I had a nickel every time Senator John McCain became even more of a hypocrite, I'd own more than one pair of $520 Ferragamo loafers.

"Congress should come back into session," Senator McCain said yesterday, trying to look tough while chivvying Senator Barack Obama to come back to the Senate to "get this energy crisis solved." Who cares about the fact that Senator Obama is not the Speaker of the House, the Senate Majority Leader, or Harry Carey's character in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, and therefore cannot ACTUALLY call his fellow congressmen back to work during their regularly scheduled break? But Senator McCain's right. Senator Obama should make a completely frivolous call to arms to the other 500 some odd congresspeople who are all in their respective districts on their traditional August holidays where they are spending time with their families, constituents, and (frankly) campaigning to keep their jobs in November.

However, Senator McCain probably wouldn't come anyway.

The fact of the matter is that this Friday marks not only the beginning of the 2008 Summer Olympics, but also the four-month anniversary of the last time Senator McCain actually went to work on anything other than a petty attack on Senator Obama's latent similarities with Britney Spears and Moses. His last appearance in the Senate was April 8.

For perspective, that was two weeks before the Pennsylvania primary.

This is not to say that a rational energy policy (ie, not the panderific "gas tax holiday" McCain came up with in May) isn't an immediate priority. As someone who fed about $60 in gas over the course of the past four days into the tank of a mere Nissan Altima -- I certainly do feel that we need to deal with the energy crisis swiftly and productively.

But isn't it a little, well, rich for Senator McCain to call Senator Obama back to work, while he himself has an absentee rate of 63.3 percent, higher than Senator Tim Johnson, even, who missed much of this session because of a brain hemorrhage? Come to think of it, maybe HE has a deal with the mint to get a nickel every time he digs his hole deeper into the sands of hypocrisy.

With that kind of money, he could be able to afford the gas to get to Washington, DC.

McCain "calling the kettle black" makes no sense. McCain isn't black. He's pasty white.

But will it get reported on the nightly news?

McCain has "an absentee rate of 63.3 percent, higher than" damn near everybody including Senators defeated in the prior election.

Good job keeping your eye on the ball. McCain is figment of the MSM's vivid imagination. He is a grandstanding blowhard and who votes (when he brothers to show up) along party lines about 90% of the time. His record speaks for itself.

Maverick and leader my arse. I know all to well. I live in Az.

I also am from Phoenix Arizona and I am so glad to hear someone call McCain what he really is. I applaud you.

I am also living in the Phoenix area and I agree totally. He's a lousy senator as is John Kyl.

Did you see the news ad that came out from Obama's camp today?

It pretty much ends with "maverick and leader my arse". Love it.

Mccain is becoming bush personified.
I find myself racing for the remote if he's speaking.

Bush is Bush personified. Believe it or not, he is a person--technically. You need a new metaphor.

Very true. But he *says* he will come back for oil: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/08/04/mccain-ill-come-back-to-s_n_116876.html. As Rachel states, "it would mean that the promise of more oil did what equal pay for women, greater veterans benefits, and a bevy of environmental and energy issues have not" - seemed *important* enough for Senator McCain to ACTUALLY do his job. Simply horrifying for a guy who's auditioning for head of the country.
