Today at a press tele-conference with Latino members of the press Senate Majority Leader Reid stated that he was keeping the anti-immigrant Vitter amendment from the floor of the Senate.

"To be honest with you, I've kept a vote from occurring" Reid stated as part of his response to a question regarding the Vitter amendment.

The amendment would force census workers to inquire about each census respondent's citizenship. Reid compared the Vitter amendment to tactics used in the south to scare African Americans from the polls.
