The New Scare: Breitbart and Post Racial America

What's Your Reaction:

Racial McCarthyism abounds in 2010. America is scared and any accusation of racism is quickly and aggressively addressed. But the protection against racism and bigotry in post racial America is now confined to perceived offenses towards Anglo Americans.

While Anglo Americans have not suffered the nooses of the KKK, have not felt the humiliation of Jim Crow laws, have not feared a state in which they must carry their passports at all times, nor have seen restaurant signs comparing them to dogs, the media- government- political complex of the 21st century is now thoroughly devoted to their protection from racism.

The swift reaction of the Obama administration in the notorious incident of Shirley Sherrod is an indication that the fear of the accusation of racism against white Americans has spread into official Washington. The success of the frame-up of an honest and decent farm-saving hero by the Joe McCarthy of race, Andrew Breitbart, is unfortunately just a symptom of the hysteria that has gripped the media and political elite.

Apparently the trio of Breitbart, the GOP, and the Tea Party are the now racial conscience of America. It seems that any creative edit from the triangle of racial terror can suffice to inspire the strength of the federal government to strike down any individual or organization that crosses their path. Shirley Sherrod was indeed lucky that a white farmer came to her defense early or she and the NAACP would have gone the way of ACORN. The fear of anti-white racial accusations has so gripped DC that we can expect future Salem-like trials with Sean Hannity presiding as judge and Goody Breitbart serving as the entranced petitioner.

Breitbart and the Republican party he caters to have found a way to scare the world's most powerful executive branch and the once venerable US Senate into fits with the mere upload function on YouTube. While it's amusing to watch the mass hypnosis the right has performed on the DC media complex, it has real and very negative consequences. One of the most apparent outcomes includes the way in which the US Senate has refused to address immigration reform.

The un-confirmable and fantastical wide-scale anti-Anglo bias, combined with the phantom menace of headless white corpses in the Arizona desert, has been enough to scare DC into a paralysis that perpetuates an entire shadow underclass of abused workers in America. The leaders of our country are so scared of the scare that they have deemed it acceptable to throw the dreams of immigrant college-bound young adults into the streets and to discard the US- born children of undocumented workers into cold detention cells.

There is no reason to not have fixed the immigration system in this country long ago other than the fear of the race-based illusions created by a few cruel grand wizards pulling levers behind sheet curtains, yet DC cowers like a weak lion when they bellow.

After the McCarthy hearings and after the Salem trials there was much gnashing of teeth and wringing of hands. Hindsight is clear and history can prove to be a heartless critic. The media and those in power are at a juncture: will sanity be brought to bear or will we continue to dunk important policies in the hunt for witches?

'Black so-called leaders are making a big mistake by giving Obama a pass and not holding him accountable for the obscene percentage of unemployment among blacks.'

black unemployment is a historic problem, not something that happened on his watch and given how badly beat up he is by the GOP/Tea partiers and the progressive left of his own party, do you want blacks to jump on him, too? you know if he fails a black man will never be elected again. maybe you can do a better job? i hate that acorn lost its funding, but who could defend it after their employees gave advice on hiding the sex trafficking of young girls? if you're black, don't you get that he has little wiggle room? no margin of error? couldn't even defend a black professor from getting arrested for entering his own home? stupid beer summit with a snobby working class white cop who couldn't take words of frustration from a rich, old, tired man just back from china.

george bush gets to ride off into the sunset. could obama have gotten away with just half of his crimes?

I think that the ultimate humour here (to keep it anglo) is that the man who considers himself "latino" (an ethic term) is complaining about the anglo racial view permeating the culture and media.

How is cultural origin (anglo refers to being descended from England, so it only covers a very small percentage of American "whiteys") any matter to racial discussion? And so goes the tired and lame attempt to keep the concept of "race" whilst transforming it into ever smaller sub-groups based around ethnicity and other such bullshit.

It has gone from being a problem of "whiteys" to being a problem of specific "whiteys"--which is assumed to mean all "whiteys" but those from the Iberian peninsula and Western Asia. Because as we all know that "those" people are historically "white" "racially", but they are culturally not. Culturally they are the part of the "other." I wish that the census did a DNA test instead of letting people make their false group assumptions. Or like Mexico we just gave up on the concept of a racial census completely.

It is stupid to attempt to otherize components of society based on false qualities and use them as a source of identifying blame. It is even worse that these false groups are using their false groupitude as a basis for their political teaming. America sucks. It is not a problem of any "race" or "ethnicity" or politically correct granfalloon. It is problem of ignorance and stupidity.

Breitbart is a repeat offender. The fake video of black people praying to Obama (though the use of subtitles) was his first, then came the racist anti-ACORN campaign. That he has not been discredited yet reflects badly on the media, and on the Obama administration.

It's time for all good people to stand up to these thugs. The teabaggers are not the majority and shame on us all for even taking their racist rants seriously.

"But the protection against racism and bigotry in post racial America is now confined to perceived offenses towards Anglo Americans." Unlike the fraudulent videos Think Progress is producing in their propaganda department to make Tea Partiers look racist with false evidence. The NAACP and left-wingers wanted a race war against conservatives, and now it's backfiring badly on them.

Breitbart punked you all! Hung you all on your own left-wing racist meme petard: jumping to conclusions without looking at the facts. How does it feel? Oh, and by the way, Ms. Sherrod will never be rehired by USDA. She's tainted goods. She could never turn down any white farmer for assistance, even rightfully so, without looking at a discrimination lawsuit. She'd be the star witness, and her self-admitted bias would be Exhibit A. I expect as quiet a retirement as possible.

Lastly, on the full-length video at 0:43 in, Ms. Sherrod thanks "the NAACP President here." Ben Jealous made a big deal condemning the conduct of the audience in response to Ms. Sherrod's remarks, but was he actually there and jumped the gun to save his own butt? Check the video out!

False evidence of racism?

“What? Shooting, abusing and raping illegals? Sounds like a winner to me! Where do I sign :)â€

Your own words. The smiley face makes it nice though.

The Sherrod incident was clever and calculated and there will be more tricks! Further, this incident will backfire the substance of future tricks as we are now vigilant, observant and watchful for the lies and deceit. When or if she gets her position back we can fully chalk this up as a learning experience. On another note, this puts tremendous pressure on the President who wants to remain neutral to the needs of all Americans, not one group over another...... But this is why he sits in the big chair!

Although the racial component of this incident can't be ignored, I think there is a larger issue here: the knee-jerk tendency of D.C. and the media to cower before every utterance of right-wing smear merchants such as Breitbart - about whom they should know better - who is notorious for, more than anything else, perpetrating fraud upon the public.

All excellent points, Mr. Solis-Marich. I say that as an Anglo-American who has very little love for his ethnic group as a whole. When I was a kid, most of my problems always came from the white kids, pure and simple. They saw me as weak and easy prey, so they came for me. It wasn't really hard to identify with ethnic groups who'd spent too much time in this country getting pushed around by the kids' ancestors or people like their ancestors in outlook and attitude.

The beloved white supremacy of too many right wingers has needed to die for a while now. Now that it looks like it's going to, I can almost smell the fear. There's a palpable sense that too many people are afraid of paying for their ancestors' sins (whether said ancestors did it or not). So they fight to hang on to their privileges tooth and nail, knowing in their heart of hearts that it's a losing battle. I sympathize a little...but my sympathy only goes so far.

Obama and his lackeys are quick to act negatively without hesitation only with issues concerning blacks like Shirley Sherrod because BO goes out of his way to prove that his policies are not in favor of that group. BO is scared to death to be accused of favoritism toward blacks and has been factually oblivious to their concerns. In contrast, the constant pressure from other groups, e.g., gays activists, Hispanics and jewish lobby force him to be positively responsive to those groups and continuously voicing his support for their agenda. Black so-called leaders are making a big mistake by giving Obama a pass and not holding him accountable for the obscene percentage of unemployment among blacks. The concept of post-racial America is a cynical idea and as much a dream (promoted by Obama and a compliant MSM) as the movie "Inception" and it is great time that people wake up and smell the coffee.

I doubt that anybody believes that one anymore, Alexander2791. The Tea Party was proof positive of that, don't you think? Besides, it does have to be said that racial progress has been made but we've got probably at least a couple of more generations before it's anything other than incremental. As ever, time and our courage will tell.
