What's Your Definition? To be Civilized

The measure of a civilization is how it treats those who have hurt it,
and those who are hurting in it.

How civilized are we? I think we have a long way to go and we may not have all the time in the world to get there.

What's YOUR definition? And are we becoming more or less according to how you see it? More importantly, what are you suggestions for becoming more civilized as defined by you.

Let's see--how many we've-got-to-get-rid-of-religion responses will you get?

I'm forming a betting pool as we speak.

Being Civilized means treating all things with dignity and respect. Most important it means treating others as you would be treated, guarding their rights as equally as one's own.

We have been better and we have been a lot worse. President Obama calls us to be civilized. Maybe we can muster that up.

I have a few sayings #1 Darwin must be turning over in his grave #2 the human race is not progressing but regressing and my all-time favorite is #3 someone needs to do a gene study on finding the common sense gene because I don't think humans have it anymore. Civilization is a dance, you take a few steps forward and a few steps back. Sad to say but I don't think we as humans (collectively) know what civilization is and/or how to be civilized.
