One of the weirdest things in the very odd Mark Sanford story was Sanford's strange quoting of the Bible in emails to his "soul-mate," Maria Chapur. In between suggestive mentions of her tan lines and her two "magnificent" parts, Sanford suddenly waxed religious, writing, "I looked to where I often look for advice and counsel," before proceeding to quote from I Corinthians 13, the famous Biblical passage on love, then managing to twist the passage to imply that he wanted to show true love for her by helping her son find a job in the movie business.
Sanford, by all accounts a devout Christian, somehow forgot to look for "advice and counsel" from other more relevant Biblical passages like Exodus 20:14, "You shall not commit adultery," or Proverbs 6:32 "A man who commits adultery lacks judgment; whoever does so destroys himself" or 1 Corinthians 6:18: "Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body."
Ok, so he wasn't paying attention to the Bible, but that's no excuse, what with warnings that pop culture gave us all over the years. Who could forget the warning we got from Michael Douglas and Fatal Attraction? Or Bob Dylan's admonition in one of his most magnificent masterpieces, "Heart Of Mine," video here and lyrics here.
Governor, you may have chosen to ignore God, but don't say Michael Douglas and Bob Dylan didn't warn you.......
