Soledad O'Brien Premieres Haiti Documentary In Hollywood

What's Your Reaction:

CNN Anchor Soledad O'Brien brought her forthcoming documentary Rescued to Hollywood for a special screening at the famed Grauman's/Mann's Chinese Theater where she showed us clips and answered questions about her project. O'Brien's piece which airs on CNN on May 8th takes viewers on a journey to Haiti and into the lives of Haitian children including one special 6-year old girl who is living in an orphanage called The Lighthouse, run by American missionaries.

I visited with O'Brien before her screening when we both attended a special meeting of the charitable group Lift Up America to learn about their new Ambassadors of Compassion program which empowers inner-city kids to rebuild their communities. We figured out that we both have four kids and a set of twins (hers boys and mine girls) and I was impressed with her intelligence and obvious interest in giving a voice to the voiceless.

I'll have a full review of Rescued next week, but for now, it's a compelling look at life in a country that was aptly described by one of the doc's producers as having been on its knees before the earthquake, and is now face down on the ground.
