Just When You Think You Can't Be Shocked By GOP Hypocrisy

?>

Just when I think I can't get any more shocked by the audacious hypocrisy we get from Republican House leadership they out-do themselves with even more shameful conduct.

Case-in-point: Today, House Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) is apparently furious that unnamed Democrats have made their intentions to go after Republican House members, in their districts, for their absurdly unified effort yesterday in not casting a single vote for the House stimulus plan, despite the effort by President Obama to work with them on concerns they had:

House Republicans are reacting strongly to reports that the White House plans a political onslaught to pressure Republicans into supporting the stimulus package and to punish those who don't.

House Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) will soon issue a statement contending that Obama's promise to "put an end to petty politics" is "threatened" as the White House and their allies "are making political threats rather than crafting a bipartisan economic stimulus plan."

..."Let us be clear: attack ads will not create jobs or help struggling families but will only serve to undermine our nation's desire for bipartisanship. Instead of thinking about winning at any cost, we should all be thinking about creating the jobs Americans need," Cantor intends to say.

What's so sad -- and which the media seems to have overlooked -- is what Cantor's own campaign committee -- the NRCC -- announced yesterday:

The NRCC is banging the good old culture wars drum today, sending out a raft of press releases asking if rookie Dems from conservative districts back the inclusion of anti-sexually transmitted disease programs.

The title of the release: Do Freshmen Dems Support $335 Million for STD Prevention in "Stimulus"?

The targets: John Adler (NJ-03); John Boccieri (OH-16); Bobby Bright (AL-02); Gerry Connolly (VA-11); Kathy Dahlkemper (PA-03); Steve Driehaus (OH-01); Alan Grayson (FL-08); Parker Griffith (AL-05); Debbie Halvorson (IL-11); Martin Heinrich (NM-01); Jim Himes (CT-04); Ann Kirkpatrick (AZ-01); Mary Jo Kilroy (OH-15); Larry Kissell (NC-08); Suzanne Kosmas (FL-24); Frank Kratovil (MD-01); Dan Maffei (NY-25); Betsy Markey (CO-04); Eric Massa (NY-29); Michael McMahon (NY-13); Walt Minnick (ID-01); Gary Peters (MI-09); Chellie Pingree (ME-01); Glenn Nye (VA-02); Tom Perriello (VA-05); Mark Schauer (MI-07); Kurt Schrader (OR-05); Harry Teague (NM-02) and Dina Titus (NV-03).

It seems that the same political Neanderthals that helped execute their disastrous strategy of the last two election cycles are still firmly in control of House Republicans. Cantor is showing himself as a first-rate hypocritical whiner.

The GOP is not The Joker. They do not cause political anarchy just for the fun of it. They really do have selfish ambitions behind what they do. Because they have EVERYTHING to lose, we should just sit back and laugh at them while they destroy the GOPs credibility for all time.

Why so serious? ;)

I blame the people that continue to VOTE for these nuts that are only working for their OWN self-interest. The country is going to H E L L in a handbasket and rather than help offer some relief they whine how they can be #1 again. Get over yourselves already. And people in these states--STOP voting for these big babies.

The tighter the Republicans Clench their Fists, the more voters will slip through their fingers.
Ride that "I hope he fails" train for all it's worth, America's fortunes will continue to brighten as Republican numbers fall. Do what's best for America, follow CaptianOxyconton's advice to the letter.

Most Republican leaders have bitterly fought and blocked the
forward surge of average men and women in their pursuit of
happiness.

Let us not be deluded that overnight those leaders
have suddenly become the friends of average men and women."

People... THAT'S WHAT THEY DO !!!

They aren't going to "go away".
They aren't going to "sit down and be quite somewhere"
They aren't going to "wake up and smell the coffee"
They aren't going to "join in and do what needs to be done".

They are going to continue to promote their agenda.
They are going to be in front of the cameras day and night to further promote their agenda.
They are going to tell the public that your agenda is what's wrong for the country and that it's you that needs to wake up and smell the coffee.
They are going to stick together and undermine any attempts you make to do what needs to be done.

You need to stop wishing they'd go away and pay attention to what they are doing.
You need to be in front of the cameras as much (if not more than) they are further promoting your agenda.
You need to believe in your agenda (as opposed to just believing in one person)... and explain to people why your agenda is better for the country.
You need to stick w/ the people who promote your agenda (again, not simply a personality) so that you can get done what needs to be done.

Micro-bio? Sounds serious.

Wouldn't it be nice if the TARP money went only to democratic districts? I wish we could have that. Leave the GOP and their supporters high and dry and see how they are doing in unregulated economy. Obviously the last 8 years were not enough for them.

Now I am wondering if Bright, Griffith, Kratovil, and Minnick are having second thoughts about voting with the Republican minority on the President's economic stimulus package.
12:48 PM on 01/30/2009
1. Is it only hypocrisy when it happens on the GOP side?

2. Why do you care how they vote? All this ZERO vote total means that this massive spending package is all on the Dems and failure means they all lose their jobs, success means they all keep their jobs.

If you really trust in this package, you should be happy that no Repubs voted yes . . . if you aren't sold on it . . . you should be a bit worried.

How long they gonna ride the STD part of the package? What the heck is wrong with such a prevention plan and $$ for it? AIDS is an STD ya know!

And $335 mil is .041875% of the stimulus package. And thats just going off $800 Billion! Its nothing! Yet for a good cause!

Off topic (a little): Speaking of Eric Cantor, when are we going to see some more in-depth investigation of his conflict-of-interest "yes" vote on the bank bailout ("HR1424: Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008"; against the majority opinion of his own party)? Especially since his wife's employer is a recipient of those funds.

Someone call in the Rahm hit squad.

Here is the problem, as much as I hate Republicans and their disastrous policies, they are great at PR. Unfortunately they have figured out how to time and again outsmart and out campaign Democrats even when Democrats have a firm grasp on power. My only hope is that Obama who seems to have a handle on the situation is going to put them in their place, but Dems need to wake up and realize they are being pegged like fools

Agree. The other problem I'm having is that this bill stinks and is nothing to be proud of.

I don't think the dem. look like fools. I think the rep. look like fools with their childish games. They not only make themselfs look like fools but also show their stupidity by hawking the same old tired policies that got us into this financial crises. Let them keep playing their games.. it is kind of comical to see these grown men hawking the same things over and over with no change. Isn't that definition of insanity?

Repugs love to wallow and yell to high heaven about anything sex related . How long is the American public going to alow their sex outrage buttons to be pushed while the truly outrageous manuevers take place before their very eyes, depriving their families of education, housing and jobs?

this only goes to show that religion must prevent people's IQ from developing beyond the seventh grade.

As Bill Maher put it, Republicans hate sex because they're so bad at it.

Why are we surprised. This is all Republicans know to do. They took a class for this crap and they really believe in the bull they talk.

the supreme irony here is these self same "champions of small government," are the very ones who got us into this mess in the first place. the collapsing american economy, along with millions of jobs lost and homes foreclosed, is due directly - as now shown by the latest government oversight report - to a complete lack of oversight and regulation of wall street and the banking industry by good ol' gwb et. al. it must be these hypocritical champions of small government and rush's dittoheads are hoping we americans have a very short memory!
