Pattinson Romance, Kate Gosselin in Trouble, and the Hottest Bachelor Is...

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

What a difference a week makes. Last week, Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie dominated the celebrity weekly covers. Not this week! Chace Crawford wins People's Hottest Bachelor, Robert Pattinson & Kristen Stewart are the hot couple of the week, Britney Spears is getting married and Stephanie Pratt is bulimic. What about the Gosselins? Trouble for Kate! She got caught hitting her daughter and In Touch has the pics to prove it.

Let's take a closer look at the just-released cover stories of the week!

2009-06-17-magsa.jpg

Gossip Girl hottie Chace Crawford takes home People Magazine's Hottest Bachelor Award. Who were the runner-ups? It looks like Twilight's Robert Pattinson and rising-star Bradley Cooper fell short of the big prize.

Is Chace Crawford the hottest bachelor in the country? Vote here!

OK! Magazine releases its third Twilight cover in a row. What's happening this week between Robert Pattinson & Kristen Stewart? The Twilight couple is obsessed with each other. They're desperate to be together and miserable when apart. With Robert in NY and Kristen in LA -- they are clearly having a tough time being apart. The solution? Robert has asked Kristen to join him in NYC!

Should Kristen Stewart accept Robert Pattinson's invitation to NYC? Vote here!

Life & Style Weekly
is reporting Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are dating -- but asks will it ruin Twilight. A castmate told the magazine that she's worried it will destroy the movie and their relationship is dividing the cast. Plus, the magazine predicts this relationship will change their on-screen chemistry.

Do you believe Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart's off-screen relationship will ruin Twilight? Vote here!

Us Weekly features The Hills' Stephanie Pratt and her struggle with bulimia on its latest cover. (And, no Jon & Kate on this week's cover.) Back to Stephanie. The Hills is apparently the reason she was bulimic. She was stressed out over working with "skinny girls," binged 5,000 calories a day and even tried to kill herself. At one point, the "other" Pratt was only 100 lbs.

Should Stephanie Pratt have quit The Hills if the show was causing her to be bulimic? Vote here!

In Touch Weekly features photos of Kate Gosselin getting caught hitting her daughter. This doesn't look good for Kate. According to In Touch, the stress of Kate's marriage is now hurting her kids. Plus, there's a debate going on asking if her children are safe. To top it all off, Kate apparently made a public statement and showed no regrets.

Will Kate Gosselin lose the kids? Vote here!

Britney Spears is getting married, according to Star Magazine. The pop-star apparently is in love with her manager Jason (the guy with her on the motorcyle). Inside you find out about Jason's proposal, how Britney's boys feel about him, as well as the $120 million prenup. BTW -- this would be Britney's third marriage!

Do you believe Britney Spears should get married? Vote here!

Spanking is not a bad thing. As a parent, I have spanked my daughters a total of three or four times. Just the threat, spoken or unspoken was enough to keep our children in line. I think most rational people know that their is a difference between spanking and hitting. My question is, Is threatening to give a spanking just as bad as actually spanking?

Good to know all you care about is keeping your children in line to make life easier for you, as opposed to actually giving your children the tools to deal with the issues which make them act out in the first place. My parents never ever spanked me and my sisters. They would sit us down and make us talk out our problems and feelings and then discuss how to deal with them, and they would talk to us about how to be respectful and better behaved.

But hey, that's hard and takes up your time, whereas spanking is easy and only takes two seconds!

Also what a great lesson to teach kids: if someone smaller and weaker than you is causing problems, the best way to deal with it is physical force!

I don't think spanking is child abuse, but I think it is the best sign of lazy parenting out there. Not to mention that I am a medical anthropologist, and every study ever done on the subject shows that kids who are spanked are more aggressive towards other and more likely to have behavioral problems with OTHER people. Sure they behave well around their parents- they are afraid they will get spanked- but then they are taught aggression as a viable solution to problems, and take that aggression out on others. Bullies are FAR more likely to have been spanked than not spanked.

Yikes! You sound like you're at the end of your rope. Take a few minutes and calm down. It's not going to help anything to get all worked up. Peace!

There is a huge difference between not being spanked and not beind disciplined. Spanked children are MORE likely to have behavioral problems, not less. All spanking does is stop the child from acting out IN THE MOMENT- it does NOTHING to correct behavior long term, and in fact just makes children more aggressive.

Not disciplining your children is of course a bad thing and will lead to spoiled rotten children. But you don't have to spank to discipline. My parents were what I would consider quite strict, my sisters and I all grew up to be well behaved, polite, and respectful, and they never laid a finger on us.

I definitely notice, even as an adult, the difference between people who were spanked and those who weren't. Those who were spanked are frankly, less patient and much angrier people (like you, for instance!), who are much quicker to anger than those of us who instead were taught by patient parents how to deal with our emotions and problems with a method other than violence.

This is truly what America has been reduced to.

A child should never be hit no matter what!!! I don't care 'how well you turned out' because you were hit. If she were hitting another adult it would be assault. It is not to be used as a last resort. Effective parenting involves not hitting a child. Also, to be hit in public and the shame it instills. I know my Dad used to come up behind me and 'spank' me and it was the ultimate humiliation. I can remember every time he hit me. Kate obviously with all the money, resources and nannies doesn't have the proper parenting skills or patience. In the one photo Leah's dress is pulled up and showing her underwear by Kate and Leah is trying to protect herself - that was a painful picture to see and think Kate this will be an image that won't go away. How dare you hit your child and shame on you!

If Kate Gosselin had been photographed doing the same thing to the two dogs - would you all still be saying "spanking doesn't hurt kids"??? PUH-LEZE!!!!!!!!!! PETA and the ASPCA would like white on rice about it!!! There is no difference - except that it is captured forever on camera.

Is it any surprise that her kids are acting out? Their father left, their mother is more interested in her own 15 minutes of fame and there are camera crews following them constantly. They are being ill-served by the adults in their lives.

And TLC and all the corporations advertising on the show are complicit.

I know that a lot of people think it is okay to hit a child. It is NOT. It takes patience and discipline to be an effective parent. Did I ever spank my children--yes. Am I sorry for that--ABSOLUTELY. I was wrong.

Kate will gain a lot of respect if she admits that it is not acceptable to strike a child. We all make mistakes--none of us is perfect.

And, you are the authority? Why? It is okay to discipline your child with a spanking.

“Any child development expert will tell you that spanking is not a good form of discipline. The reason being is that you are your child’s role model. So, if you act out with physical force when you’re feeling frustrated, how can you expect your child to behave when they’re feeling frustrated?”

YES. It's from TLC's own website.

spanking is abusive, whether it is that reverse-mulleted gosselin woman doing it, or anyone else. read the literature. spanking causes children to be aggressive, antisocial, and worse. she must be really proud to see those pictures of herself in action, looming over that tiny child like that. and the little girl's face says it all. a cruel and shameful way to treat a little child.

Agreed. There is a difference between discipline and spanking.

Substitute the word "hitting" for "spanking" and it doesn't sound so innocent. "Spank" is just a nice way of saying "hit!"

A lot of people read Doctor Spock too, just to find out he was not always right. Literature, or not, there are a lot of people who would be more aggressive , anti social and worse, if they had not been stopped by a parent that spanked them. I did not have mean parents. They were the best, and always there for me. I got a few spankings along the way, and because of it, I had more respect for what they said, and how I behaved. I could have been a child who got in a lot of trouble as a lot of teenagers do, but not only did I not belive in certain things, but I did not want to cause my parents any suffering, or be ashamed of my own behaviour.. I also had a strong faith, thanks to my parents. So, nobody is going to tell me simple spanking will do such horrible things to children. Usually there are more than spanking going on. There is REAL abuse, such as actual beatings, and verbal battering. So don't say no spankings for any child. You have to know the child and you have to know if it will do any good, and you cannot go overboard and beat them, but common sense would tell a person that. If a parent cannot control THEMSELVES, then no, they should not spank.

Me too, and I deserved it every time. Everyone will be completely happy when she is destroyed and her kids are taken. The media wants this to happen so they can sell magazines and the folks fall right in line and signing up for the hate mob.

Did you ever get spanked in front of camera crews so that your punishment would be displayed on magazine covers?

Sorry, I don't care what your opinion on spanking is, doing it so that the whole world can see it is just cruel. That child is going to be messed up for life.

Messed up for life because she was hit when the cameras were rolling? Pulleeeze.
In this messed up society/country/world she will be lucky to have a life to get messed up... unless we do something about killing our planet, spanking will be the least of our problems.
Probably 50 % of the population got "spanked" and grew up fine.
