Mark Teixeira is a Major League Baseball (MLB) player for the New York Yankees. He was drafted by the Texas Rangers in 2001 and made his MLB debut for them in 2003. Mark has also played for the Atlanta Braves, Anaheim Angels and in 2009, as a free agent, he signed an eight-year contract with the Yankees. He was an integral part of the Yankees 2009 World Championship run with 39 HRs, 122 Runs Batted In and a Gold Glove award for his defense. Mark has won a total of five Gold Glove Awards and three Silver Slugger Awards. He also holds the all-time major league record for most games with a home run from both sides of the plate, with 12.

Mark is one of just three Yankees first basemen in franchise history to record at least 100R, 30HR and 100RBI in multiple seasons with the club, and is the only player to accomplish the feat in his first two seasons with the club. He is the third player in baseball history to reach 25HR plateau in each of his first nine Major League seasons.

Mark was born in Annapolis, Maryland and played college baseball at Georgia Tech. He resides in Greenwich, Connecticut with his wife Leigh, and their three children. Mark is actively engaged in philanthropic activities through his Foundation, DreamTeam25 (DreamTeam25.org) with Harlem RBI, based in East Harlem NY, being the focus of Mark’s time and effort. Harlem RBI serves more than 1,200 boys and girls, ages 5-22, with year-round academic, sports and enrichment programs. The Organization’s comprehensive approach to youth development replaces the barriers inner-city youth typically face with concrete opportunities to build the skills and confidence needed to graduate high school, matriculate to college and break the cycle of poverty. DREAM Charter School, a natural extension of Harlem RBI’s success, has officially broken ground and is scheduled to open for the 2014 School Year.
