January is a pretty big month when it comes to national holidays -- from New Year's Day to Martin Luther King's Birthday to that star-spangled, quadrennial pageant known as Inauguration Day. But did you know that during the first month of the year we also pay homage to popcorn? And squirrels? And kazoos?!
This is not a joke! It's true, January plays host to some of our nation's more obscure -- and unusual -- holidays, so I asked my resident team of editorial loons to help me come up with a sampling for your enjoyment. You probably won't find any Hallmark cards to send to your friends on these days, so we leave it to you to celebrate them in whatever way you think fitting. And, by the way, if you like to wear the appropriate attire on holidays, prepare to be very cold on January 16th.
