I hope this blog reaches the GOP platform committee in time: you're being way-y-y too shy with your planks. A Human Life Amendment to the Constitution outlawing all abortions and granting embryos personhood through the 14th Amendment are good starts. Now, why not go all the way? Your party has already campaigned to eliminate contraception for women, but fertilized eggs shouldn't be the only ones to benefit from anti-contraception policies.
Simply put, sperm deserve equal personhood too (they're potential life), and men deserve the same life-affirming treatment vis-a-vis contraception that women are getting. The Bible says, "be fruitful and multiply; populate the earth abundantly" -- and the GOP can help.
The facts of men's fertility are that they can cause hundreds (even thousands in the case of certain athletes who brag about their abilities) more pregnancies than women can. In the most extreme case on both sides, consider a woman who becomes pregnant and gives birth every year of her fertile life. It is theoretically possible for her to have 35 children in her lifetime. In the same period, if a man had unprotected intercourse just once per week he could father 1,820 children. Add his increased years of fertility, and his potential for physical domination over women (aka "legitimate rape"), and we see that the problem of populating the earth is largely one of aiding male fertility -- meaning free the sperm from the contraceptives that kill them and the condoms that smother them.
So how do we facilitate sperm rights? By outlawing condoms beginning at puberty, and requiring DNA samples to go into a national DNA registry at the same time. That way, each fertilized egg could exercise its constitutional right to know its paternity, and the full-term babies that result would be entitled to support until they reach 21, whether or not the father is married to the mother. Use of condoms for medical reasons unrelated to fertility would have to be approved by a panel of three doctors, and with the permission of his designated female partner. For men under 18, a judge's permission would be needed.
Control of men's fertility would not be hard to enforce. We could use a combination of punishments for those who obtained condoms illegally (and for pharmacies that sold them without proper authorization). The men could be required to adopt one orphan child per infraction and rear it to adulthood. The pharmacists could lose their licenses, or go to prison if they habitually aided men under the table by selling condoms or spermicides for their partners. With DNA fingerprinting the method is foolproof, especially if drug stores and convenience stores reported any man who tried to buy birth control unlawfully.
Protecting sperm rights would benefit society, and wouldn't really harm men.
Understand -- a man's right to control his own body and life choices would not be infringed. Men could still have sex. They would merely be asked to accept a few tiny, ever-so-reasonable restrictions.
C'mon GOP. You've got another few days to do the right thing -- now beef up that platform!

Advances in medical monitoring technology have created an opportunity to implant arousal detection circuitry in prepubescent boys, and thereby prevent the countless midnight murders that might otherwise arise. This implant would deliver a series of preemptive electric shocks, and thus prevent illicit destruction of million of sperm pairs. This type of detection and prevention technology will not be restricted to boys only. Obviously what's good for the sperm donor, is good for the egg layor.
Since the differences in biological arousal and women's egg production and release does not present the same urgency inherent in sperm producers. However obviously menstruation must be prohibited at all costs with its inherent egg-pair loss. Nanofactories must be introduced in each prepubescent woman's hall of reproduction once called by the vulgar uter*s, allowing each pre-menstral egg to be encapsulated and rescued via a microscopic conveyor belt for extraction and preparation for the fertilization by a carefully selected sperm pair. [More for War!]
If men could get pregnant, contraception would be a sacrament.
Sorry Ms. Burke, you should have thought this out more thoroughly before committing it to print. A sperm cell by itself, does not equate to human life or a potential human life. It is necessary for the sperm to join with the egg in order for all components of a distinct and unique human life to be present. Neither a sperm cell nor an egg cell separately can meet this definition. Neither, unless joined together, can ever become a human being. Once joined, you have all the elements in place that make up the specific package of a given human being. This is one of the more laughable arguments ever put forward by pro abortionists and shows the lack of depth of their position. Incredible that someone would actually put their name on an article which makes such a claim.
I am a mother of a male child, and his father arranged that bit of mutilation without my consent when he was a day old.
Backstory: The Republican attack on Rep Charles Rangel was not over postage stamps, letterhead stationary nor rent subsidies. It was because Charles Rangel was bold and brave enough to submit bills to the floor of CONGRESS that would call for greater restraints on whom would be able to evade military service in the time of a draft. He submitted his bills to save lives. He forced the chicken-hawk Republican Party to sign on the dotted line that they were against re-instating the draft...the draft they very much wanted to use again. Instead, they used multiple deployments of enlistees that wanted to guard OUR LAND. In Charles Rangel's bills, you wouldn't find a deferment for a pimple on your posterior, as a Republican politician had done. We have all seen the less connected and the poor be forced to sacrifice their life for cowards of war service whom profited from their loss of lives.
I know and saw exactly what the "payback" from the Republicans was all about, Charlie. They are cowards to the core and let them be, but don't fight for their profits and "freedom" in hidden agendas for profits to 5 time deferment VP's.
No more military chaplains. NONE. Send reservists in, instead of untrained troops.
