This is the huge headline on the Drudge Report as of 9am EDT on Monday October 27th 2008
2001 OBAMA: TRAGEDY THAT 'REDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH' NOT PURSUED BY SUPREME COURT
You click and you link to a YouTube clip titled "Obama Bombshell Redistribution of Wealth Audio Uncovered". The clip consists of some audio -- with misleading extracts of text -- to a 2001 Chicago public radio interview with a very studious Barack Obama in law professor mode discussing the limitations of the court and his belief that the legislative process is the appropriate way to pursue economic justice. (Which if memory serves -- accords with the conservative preference to eliminate judges who legislate from the bench.)
This clip isn't as boring as watching paint dry. It's more boring. It's like watching paint period.
The phrase "Clutching At Straws" does not do justice to this very limp attempt by Drudge to erect something he can put up against Barack Obama. Alas -- as Drudge is all too aware -- it just won't stand up any more.
The impotence of Drudge's attempts to get something to stick to Obama brings to mind the English expression "Brewer's Droop." Though perhaps in deference to his colossal lack of achievement in this field -- the phrase should be re-coined "Brewer's Drudge."
Apparently linking to this "bombshell" is the best that Drudge has been able to come up with so far. Though I'm sure he'll be plucking more things out of his arse (to be quaintly British) as we get ever closer to the end of the conservative reign of terror and error that he did so much to help usher in with his pioneering work in the field of internet muck-raking.
Meanwhile, in related news -- I am able to share with you this new scan of Matt Drudge's brain.

JW--What Obama said was that the civil rights movement wasted too much time and energy going after court rulings, and not enough on helping people pull themselves up is a non-controversial position and basically the conservative view. Obama's description of the role of the constitution, as a limitation on government power, is also non-controversial and one that even Antonin Scalia would agree with.
Martin, You can try to spin it anyway you want but Obama says two very scary things:
That the Supreme Court didn't go far enough in terms of reparations.
And that the Constitution failed to talk about what government MUST DO.
You can sya Obama has his "legal voice" on, or reduce it anyway you want, but this will cost him dearly as people get wind of this.
im a cop believe went i tell you that ,that audio that your heard is fake.
JW, He simply never says the two things you claim.
He does not say that the Supreme court should have addressed redistribution of wealth. He states that it is not constitutionally within the power of the courts to address such questions. He is just making an observation of the limits on what the courts can (and should) do. He makes the point that the work of the Warren court should not be seen as radical (he does not argue that it should have gone further than it did).
He then goes on to imply that inequality of wealth can only be addressed by the communities themselves. Creating conditions such that redistribution of wealth occurs, at a community level, can mean things like: improving educational conditions and opportunities for undeserved communities, encouraging financial institutions to provide services to these communities in order to see growth in wealth in the community. These are all areas that have seen active development in the last 20 or so years, but could have had more energy devoted to them.
I honestly see nothing controversial in any of his statements here.
You mean he's not done beating the Ayers-Wright dead horse?
“Socialism is how your children go to school for free with ALL of us paying tax dollars for it even though I don't have and don't want any kids. *I* still pay for YOUR kids to go to school so that you don't have to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars a month like it were private school.
The reason our elderly do not face the same poverty as just 100 years ago is because of socialist programs called "Medicare" and "social security"
If we were to go to a purely capitalistic government, say goodbye to free school and hello private schools and home schooling…say hello to grandma moving in and paying for her doctors’ bills… and goodbye Medicare and social security checks, say goodbye to the G.I. Bill, lower cost housing, medical programs for children, etc.
A pure capitalist government means saying hello to more privatizing of public services like Haliburton and Blackwater. WAKE UP. Our government is mixed capitalist and socialist for a reason. Neither is perfect…”

The UK's forces were all free enterprise at one time, particularly their navy. They were known as pirates. No difference from Blackwater. Want to see the problems about this kind of free enterprise? Go to http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/10/081015110751.htm . I found this in THe Daily Beast.
Ask a person who identifies themselves as a conservative what the definition of socialism is and see what answer you get. For that matter, ask anyone. 9 times out of 10 you will get an answer that is nowhere close to correct.
Of course, Fox News is already playing this clip on a loop.
Taxation is about redistributing wealth, so that we all benefit.
It has NOTHING to do with socialism/communism.
It is a basic function of a Democracy!
Get used to it, Repugs, and do it correctly!
