GOP Senator Larry Craig's "Wide Stance"!

2007-08-28-Larrythecowboy.jpg
Senator Larry Craig (center) in "Brokeback Mountain"

Well here's a fine to-do for all those wingnuts in Cloud-Cuckoo-Land!

It's time for the Republican Party to 'ex-Foley-ate' itself again as yet another gay-hating, homophobic, social conservative is caught with his pants down - and literally in the closet.

Senator Larry Craig has not only been a vociferous opponent of the gay movement (except apparently his own gay movements) but it turns out to that he is yet another steaming hypocrite who has pandered to the vast gay-loathing base of the Republican Party.

Only like so many Republicans who have come before him (insert your own joke here) - he is revealed by his recent actions and guilty plea to be a self-loathing gay.

But what is priceless is the excuse he offered to the policeman who arrested him.

Trying to explain why he was playing footsie with the man in the next cubicle in the airport toilet - he came up with this all-time classic. So fallacious that it sounds as if it came out directly of George Bush's mouth.

"I have a wide stance"

Nope - I'm not making it up!

So I thought I should look and see what Senator Larry Craig's "wide stance" is on the topic of that most cynically named of all Karl Rove's favorite wedge issues: "Family Values"

(As all thinking people know - the term 'Family Values' is a political branding as Orwellian and meaningless as 'Moral Majority' and 'compassionate conservative'. "We favor this looney position - therefore everyone who doesn't agree with us on this topic is against the first word in the topic name. i.e. im-moral, un-compassionate, anti-family etc. etc.")

Anyway - it's one of the big planks that the wingnuts think/hope might save them next year - so they cling on to it like a drowning GOP Senator clutching at stances.

Here from his official website is Larry's 'missionary' position.

(Well - it's from a pompous screed titled: "My Philosophy, Mission, and Goals" - so it's virtually 'missionary'!)

Goal Three:

Defend and strengthen the traditional values of the American family.

Yup - playing footsie with a cute guy in the bathroom at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport should certainly strengthen your American Family.

It will be fun to see how the blogging morons of the Immoral Minority try to spin this one!

He supports good old fashioned family values, such as apple pie, baseball, and cruising for hot cock in airport bathrooms!

Once again, I'm left wondering, "What was he thinking?" And in what twin universe could this be moral behavior? And, how must his wife and children be feeling? And what kind of internalized self loathing and cultural homophobia drives someone in his position to take this kind of risk rather than seeking a mature, ethical sexual relationship with someone of the same sex?

And no surprise, when I looked up his voting record at HRC this morning, Senator Craig has voted for anti-gay measures, most recently in 2006 for the Federal Marriage Amendment. Maybe we can count on him now for YES votes on ENDA and Hate Crimes Legislation. He did resign yesterday as chairman of Mitt Romney's presidential campaign in Idaho.

In a world where sexual difference was affirmed, maybe these incidents wouldn't happen.

The republican machine is alive and well in my one party state of Idaho. Mr. Craig just keeps getting re-elected. He and his cronies "family values" are a legacy of poverty, no child health care, appalling mental health care, poor education, prisons - and those are just the issues I know about. Idaho is a "model state" in the art of republican governance.

Idaho is a one party state. The republican machine is alive and well here. Craig gives impetus to the term "family values"; poverty, economic terrorism, lack of child health care, appalling mental health care, prisons, are just some of his and his cronies gifts to our state. Yet, he keeps getting elected - just keeps on truckin.

and keeps on cruisin' apparently.

I supoose it would be too much to hope that the good (and apparently over-trusting) people of Idaho will have the scales fall from their eyes after this and realize that they have been "gamed" over and over by these GOP "Family Values" hucksters...

It's not just Senator Wide Stance of Idaho...anybody else notice Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah in a kimono priming for his close-up? Queens, the Senate is Full of Them!

My whole life, everyone has called me hyperactive. I'm always shaking my feet. Now, I find out it's a gay pickup sign. I may have been breaking hearts in restrooms for years! Who knew?

Men SECURE in their sexuality (which ever it is) don't worry about what other people do sexually. It's only the repressed self-loathing, obsessive compulsive folks who CONSTANTLY stick their noses in what others are doing.

These hypocrites have to lurk around men's rooms because they're trolls.
Being a 'mo myself, I know I wouldn't touch any of them.
That's why they're so antigay. They're pissed off because they couldn't get a date.

After falling for that 'family values' crap for years (from 2000 and back), I've come to believe that the highest 'value' is in loving one another and not being judgeMENTAL. As a Christian, I believe that was Jesus' message in a nutshell. Maybe if more Christians saw through that simple prism and practiced that, the faith wouldn't look bad to so many people.

It's just too funny.

The gentleman from Idaho, Sen 'Wide Stance.'

LOL

I suspect the spin will be that Homosexuality and and Family Values are not mutually exclusive. That the behaviour of promiscuity is wrong, but that a loving monogamous relationships between two consenting adults is what is good, and that it secures the stability of a great country.

When I mentioned I think Gonzales is a closet homosexual, I don't mean to offend gay people. It's just truly disgusting the way these people hide their own sexual proclivities while attacking others publicly for the same behavior. There is NOTHING in the world worse than hypocrisy. And today's GOP has taken it to levels previously unheard of. May they all crash and burn for it.

Gonzales doesn't make a blip on my gay-dar.
You folks have to claim a few of this administration they can't ALL be playing for my team.

Sounds like this clown has quite a wide stance (filled with nothing) betwixt his ears.

Ive been a lifelong Republican, and have to say, today's GOP is the nastiest bunch of perverts and criminals I have ever heard of... it never ends. Who's next?!!!

And for the record, I've long thought Alberto Gonzales was the biggest closeted homosexual I've ever seen. He totally acts, looks and sounds like Dumbya's bitch.

Maybe that's why he's allowed authorities at one of Texas's juvinile (male) correctional facility to get away with raping and molesting its under age inmates - even after charges were brought against them. (That's a story not even barely mentioned in the MSM.) The most ironic thing with that is, in the middle of that, Gonzo was out there touring the country talking about how he's "protecting" our children. Makes me want to vomit, he's so disgusting and two-faced.

Why do Liberals think that all Conservatives are the same and feel the same way about all issues? Could it be because all Liberals think the same way about all issues?
I'm a Conservative and personally, I have no problem with gays and think they should be treated equal to everyone else. I also think that the troops should be pulled from Iraq.
But go ahead Liberals, go on believing that we all think the same and we all pull the Bush line.

Congratulations on being a Thinking Conservative. Now try and promulgate your views within today's Republican Party... Try and influence the GOP to see reason. And when you see how they ignore you (and privately sneer about you behind your back) - then look for a place where your values might be appreciated. If you're fiscally conservative - well you know that the GOP is definitely not your party...

This story is just so gay.

It sounds like you are a Conservative of the old school, i.e. no foriegn adventurism, less taxes, less government interferance in our lives, etc, etc. These were the Conservatives I grew up knowng. The republican party has been absolutely hijacked by the Neoconservatives and hidden behind the label of Conservative. Perhaps the GOP has left you the same way the Dem's left me?
