"In Iran we don't have homosexuals like in your country..." - President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad - New York City - September 24, 2007

At last!

America's social conservatives have found a soul-mate. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Apparently he runs a gay-free paradise! No such things as homosexuals in Iran! He just said so. "We don't have homosexuals in Iran",

As America's conservatives survey the Sodomy (sic) and Gomorrah that the USA has become under degenerates such as Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan and a brace of Bushes -- not to mention obvious culprits Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton -- all they see is a country lost to sinners. Awash in homosexuality, degnerates and Doris Day fans.

How comforting for them to know that they have a soul-mate in Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

And to know that they have a country to live in where they won't have to be confronted by masses of depraved gays.

I propose a fund to help American conservatives emigrate to their Promised Land. No gays ... women in their place ... and a low tolerance for free expression. Iran -- a conservative paradise ...

I blame the Pilgrims for all this mess in the U.S.
Wasn't it the fringe element of European Christians the ones who were "thrown out" and sent to exile in America? Just thinking...

1 - If the comments are closed, you'll not be reading this.

2 - Possibly Mr Ahmadinejad would like to meet some of the Iranian gay men I've talked to on the internet - or some of the Iranian gay men Ive known in person as far back as the early 60s when I was in college. I don't think we should bomb them, but what an ass this man is!!

But, since we have a total ass for our president, I guess I've not much to say. They both need to go before they get us into a deeper war.

I think that the president of Iran very clearly made his point - to quote Haaretz-
"It's the Israelis, stupid"
"we need to solve the Israeli problem ¬ and finally bring peace to the Middle East."

I now understand Martin Lewis's point that American Christians really have no business interfering with Jews or Israel as well as the middle east in general. Typical redneck americans-Christian conservatives- only screw it up by being such greedy selfish racists- We should disengage entirely from the middle east. This is not our fight and we are not qualified to be involved.

To further quote Haaretz-
"the average American is ..... tired of the region's fighting. ...... disengagement -idea may sound tempting."

Bring our troops home, achieve energy independence and leave the middle east to the Jews and their neighbors-things will certainly work out better than if stupid cowardly selfish Christian Americans are involved.

If only the right-wingers (here and in the Muslim world) could agree on which version of the "old man in the sky" malarky they believe in, they would find they have so much in common.

WHY are the comments closed on the Gay and Ahmadinejad thread?

It's offesive to LGBT's here and to our non-existant brothers and sistrs in Iran.

I agree Qbear. what are they afraid of? 5 comments and then closed?????? It was one of the most absurd of all of Ahmandinejad's comments....well, no, they were all absurd, but what's the deal with allowing only FIVE????? comments before shutting it down!! He said about the holocaust that more information was needed. You think he might allow a little more research on his no gays in Iran statement? I think not.

Unfortunately the social conservatives are armed in the US and occupy 92% of the land. Martin Lewis has convinced me that the US should disengage from the middle east, be truly neutral with no aid to any of the players and encourage migration of jews worldwide to Israel. Israel can only get along with its neighbors when the US stops interferring in jewish affairs.

Iran is Moslem republic..not like democratic country America or other democratic country. Everywhere else in moslem country middle east, as they have majority moslem, they wont recognized gay/homosexual (sodom and gomorah story from Bible/Alquran) and they have no such a words in their society about gay cause it's not acceptable. If in this case someone think that he/she is a gay...they just have to move to other country....US maybe??? Even in Indonesia democratic country majority moslem.....they don't have gay society openly or government make it legal....if there are exist, most are hide their orientation or move out...
the point is....mind your bussiness...

The point, mathari888, is that the the extreme right wing conservatives and the state of Iran have some similar ideals. Iran's president claims there are no gays in Iran which is music to the ears of right wing. Just like Iran, they believe homosexuality has no place in this country and they shouldn't even be recognized by our government. Hence, we should send our extreme right over there since they seem to believe in the same treatment towards individuals as Iran does. That's the point.

I'll donate to the fund.

I want all who believe in a homosexual free Utopia, to become proud citizens of Iran and feel safe and secure in that land of no homosexuals.

I'll beg for the opportunity to allow tolerance to thrive in America, and rid ourselves of the haters who are holding us back from our Utopia.

"Christians in the U.S. feel bad for any people mired in sin and pray for them. In Iran, homosexuals are "removed." See the difference? No? What a shock."

If Far-Right Christians in this country were simply "praying" for gays and lesbians, you might have a point. Thing is, though, they're working to keep laws in place that allow for bias and job discrimination against gays and lesbians so that gays and lesbians could be removed from their jobs simply for being gay; have worked to support laws that would allow for gays and lesbians to be kicked out of apartments and other places of residence simply for being gay; have fought laws that attempt to redress a historic lack of proper investigation and prosecution of certain anti-gay hate crimes, including murder (while laws like these protecting "religion" are apparently fine); have fiercely battled to keep gays and lesbians from having the legal protections and rights associated with marriage or, even, in many cases, civil unions; and so on and so forth.

In other words, many of those particular U.S. Christians you speak of have worked to "remove" gays and lesbians from jobs, from housing, from civil rights, and from justice. Are they actually killing gays themselves? No, not generally, and in that you may have a point, if it's a point of pride that you're simply encouraging that atmosphere rather than, say, wrapping your hands around someone's throat and doing the deed yourself. But the record shows U.S. Christian conservatives have attempted to "remove" gays and lesbians from every other part of society in every way possible whenever they think they can get away with it.

So do you see the distinct similarities at the heart of this? No?

What a shock.

Your point, if you have one, is that Christians pray for sinners. I guess you're referring to homosexuals. There is no difference between the intolerant Christian and the intolerant Muslim. They are both getting messages from an imaginary friend, and they are both trying to force their tired old ethics on the rest of us. No thanks. Christians used to burn homosexuals at the stake. Hence, the word faggot. Christians are no better than any other sect. They just think they are.

This, along with any number of issues, is how Dems should should shape the debate. The argument is -- we are Democrats. We take a more liberal view of the world and we would like the United States to reflect our ideals. Republicans and conservatives, on the other hand, are more like the dictators and authoritarian regimes that claim to be so vehemently against. Take North Korea for example. It is highly unlikely that Terrorists would be successful there. Accordingly, shouldn't the United States adopt similar policies? Flag Burning? Cuba prohibits flag burning, shouldn't we adopt the Cuban policy? And so on and so on. The bumper sticker is ... "Republicans and Conservatives hate us for our Freedoms"

I agree. Why try are conservative trying to turn the US into Iran, when they can just move to the socially conservative original? (To sweeten the deal, Iran is one of the only other countries in the world that sanctions the death penalty!) The promise land awaits - now get packing!

It's ignorance on Abedinejad's part to say that. But remember one thing: it's called cultural differences. I know the neocons want the whole world to be the new states of America. So if we deal with that then maybe we can make some actual progress? For everyone including all gay and lesbian people in Iran.

What a great idea. Iran's social policies based on 'religion' seems like the perfect homeland (oh how I hate that word, just sounds so Nazi like) for these people.
