Ever since their diaspora, Jews have been accused of putting something else -- themselves, the dispersed Israelite people, then Israel itself -- ahead of their own country. Jewish citizens of Russia, Germany and America, to pick just a few, have been slandered (and sometimes killed) for allegedly putting their allegiances to the Hebrew nation ahead of their patriotism toward the motherland, the fatherland or the homeland. This is vintage Protocols of the Elders of Zion.
And yet what do we hear today from Orthodox Jew Joe Lieberman?
"In my opinion, the choice could not be more clear: between one candidate, John McCain, who's had experience, been tested in war and tried in peace, another candidate who has not. Between one candidate, John McCain, who has always put the country first, worked across party lines to get things done, and one candidate who has not."
And just in case the media failed to notice, the McCain campaign -- whose slogans include "Country First" -- has now sent Lieberman's remarks to the entire political press corps.
What is to be made of this? Does Joe Lieberman not realize that he is using one of the oldest anti-semitic tricks in the book to accuse Obama of being the Islamic candidate?

Lieberman has GOT to be kicked off any committees he's on, he cannot be trusted! He's made his bed with John McCain, so let him sleep in it!
Joe Lieberman regards the squandering of a trillion dollars on the Bush administration's Iraq adventure as "putting the interests of America first"! John McCain's foolish endorsement of the invasion and the attempt to occupy Iraq, as a means of protecting Israel, is far from putting the interests of America first. Even more absurd is the fact this idiotic scheme works against Israel's true best interests.
Everybody know the guy is an ignorant, turncoat. Key word - IGNORANT. What puzzels me is
why the Democrats still let him hold key positions and caucus with them. I don't get it.
If the Dems do a good job in expanding their Senate majority, Lieberman will be quickly and quietly marginalized. Now is not the time.
Exactly, if Lieberman had his feathers ruffled, he could have formally switched to Republican and the Democrats would have lost the "control" of the Senate - not that Uncle Harry has been able to control much of anything.
ah, good answer...pick your battles.
More proof that McCain and his surrogates would rather lose their principles than lose an election.
Uh-oh, looks like Lieberman has lost his bearings again.
The comment was that the Islamic world prefers Obama. That is a fact. So does Germany and maybe Kenya. Israel may prefer McCain. Only American votes count. Joe owes the Democratic party (which tried to defeat him in a primary) absolutely nothing.
Likewise, the Democratic Party owes Joe Lieberman exactly JACK SQUAT. Just wait until next January.
The Democratic Party protected and supported Joe Lieberman for decades, and did not waver in their support for him as Gore's Vice Presidential running mate, even though some Democrats and many Americans were skeptical about him because of his allegiance to Israel (before 911 and the Iraq War). He was a Democrat who ran as an Independent soley to save his seat in congress. He didn't care about the Democratic Party when he voted against them and sided with the Republicans on virtually every foreign policy issue, including the war; he didn't care about the Democratic Party when he chose to run as an Independent to defeat the Democratic nominee; and he doesn't care about the Democratic Party now. He may as well declare himself a Republican!
In spite of its factual context, the intent of Lieberman's comment was clear.
I believe you do not realize that times have CHANGED!
It used to be that no one would dare criticize Israel or Jews
having first loyalties there. Everyone was supposed to be
absolutely pro Israel. And called anti-semitic and
hounded if they voiced any other feeling. MSM and others got even.
Lately, Amerians are fed up. With the zionist neocons and
the Israel firsters. And being detested by the world.
More than fed up, one would say.
K.Oberman discussed this statement last evening. I heard no mention on MSM's 24/7 irrelevance! We can just add this and all other attempted racial/"he's not one of us" insinuations and voir dair!
But, since Lieberman is allowed with impunity to bate in this manner, may we also speak of the struggles of Africans in this diaspora!? Would that be permissible?
Exactly what was Lieberman's assets to Al Gore, especially in Florida!!?? In my mind, Lieberman has no home!
Joe is the elephant in the living room...in more ways than one. I don't think he did anything to help Gore and no one in the Party apparatchik has had the guts to talk about it. In fact they (being theclintons and, yes, Obama) did everything they could to get him reelected in CT. Were they afraid of offending Jewsand/or Israel? Who knows, but I can't for the life of me see lieberman's attraction.
Totally agree.
We have had racism is judaism since Moses married a women of darker skin. In Israel and every place in the world the jews that are of europen background and more white feel they are superior to this jews of the middle east with darker skin. If one wants to marry the other it is frowned upon is almost every religious jewish circle. Nothing has changed much sine the time of Moses and Joe Lieberman has the same problem in my opinion as many others. I feel race has allot to do with his feeling .
There is a big divide between modern young Jews and there parents. Many young support Obama and at times will not speak at all to there parents caiing them racist etc.
I do not like Joe Lieberman and belive his loyalty is with Israel and NOT the U.S..
I am also a supporter of Israel as many people are but i am loyal to our flag and country first.
It is obvious to me that Joe will be finnished with both parties soon and i will rejoice because he is not good for Israel and Jews in the U.S
Didn't Hillary's wonderful people first test-run this attack, in a much worse fashion? Yeah, anti-Semitism and anti-Muslim, all bad. But "say it ain't Jew" strikes me as worse than Lieberman's borderline bigoted remark. More of the far left's smug double standard: Who me? No, no, it's him/them!
Do you want to articulate why Kaplan's comment is worse than Lieberman's, or will you stick with the far right's usual insult-and-run tactics?
mmmmmm
Joe must suffer the curse of Hamlet. "To be or not to be".... what every american hopefully aspires to be just "an american".... where color, religion and ethnicity are just consigned to the Census taker.
But then Sen. Lieberman must be one of the highest beneficiary of THE LOBBY., and must perform.
We have to support Israel. There are 290,000 Ultra Orthdox Jews who do not work and depend on the U.S. Aide of $ 3.6 Billion for the Israeli Welfare program. That is just over $12,000 per person in welfare.
Don't worry Joe we got the single American moms under tight control we keep them living on less than $12,000 a year.
We know it is important the the Ultra Orthdox Jews be able to study the Tora all day everyday to reach enlightment and we are glad to provide assistance in their goals.
Great point!!
Please please tell us that isn't true!
,,,,,
It seems odd that Joe makes that stance. Most of the neocons running John McCains campaign are Zionists first, Americans second. In fact Franklin, who worked for Feith and Wolfowitz supplied information about US-Iran policy to Israel. Ladeen, a Likudnik, heralded his actions. All of the neocons openly announce their unending support for Israel and everything it does. They have been the source of many investigations into their activities.
It is the height of hypocrisy that McCain's camp is questioning Obama's "Americaness". Obama is the perfect American story - one that points straight to what every American believes - that everyone, regardless of race, money, background and religious belief, can move by, hard work and education, to the top.
McCain's camp is espousing a losing argument.
Do you know that McCain was born in Panama, Central America, not in USA, and Obama was born in Hawaii, USA? Which citizenship or birthright would you question?
John McCain - Country first.
Wait, which country? Israel or the US?
Neither. He's referring to Wine Country.
Yup, no anti-Semitism here. Just the same old story about those Zionists controlling all the gentiles in power.
Well there's Bush.
McCain and his staff. The Washington Post, NYT, DOD
Who is Barnake? , Spitzer, etc etc and etc.
Elliot Abrams, Mukasee. And etc.
As a Jew, I'm sure Lieberman has experienced the kind of anti-semitism tricks to which you refer, and experienced them many times. That makes it that much more disgusting that he would use such tactics on anyone else. It is sickening when one's religion, ehnicity, race, gender or sexual preference are used to prejudice others against them. But to be someone who has experienced it and rather than learn compassion as a result, instead sharpens their sword to hurt others more effectively is despicable.
AS A JEW here in Florida, Every Time I hear "JUDAS" Joe Lieberman Speaks It Disgust me to say the least!!
http://liebermanmustgo.com/
sicliabel....I hope you & other Jews forward this to your jewish family & friends and discuss it with them. I think it's disgraceful and totally without merit. Though I am not Jewish, my father's father's ancestors were Italian Jews who migrated from Italy circa 1720. I am birachial and consider this to be extremely offensive. This kind of tatic and slander should have no place in today's America. I can only hope the Jewish community express their outrage with Leiberman & distance themselves from this type of remark. It impacts us all.
