Ever since their diaspora, Jews have been accused of putting something else -- themselves, the dispersed Israelite people, then Israel itself -- ahead of their own country. Jewish citizens of Russia, Germany and America, to pick just a few, have been slandered (and sometimes killed) for allegedly putting their allegiances to the Hebrew nation ahead of their patriotism toward the motherland, the fatherland or the homeland. This is vintage Protocols of the Elders of Zion.
And yet what do we hear today from Orthodox Jew Joe Lieberman?
"In my opinion, the choice could not be more clear: between one candidate, John McCain, who's had experience, been tested in war and tried in peace, another candidate who has not. Between one candidate, John McCain, who has always put the country first, worked across party lines to get things done, and one candidate who has not."
And just in case the media failed to notice, the McCain campaign -- whose slogans include "Country First" -- has now sent Lieberman's remarks to the entire political press corps.
What is to be made of this? Does Joe Lieberman not realize that he is using one of the oldest anti-semitic tricks in the book to accuse Obama of being the Islamic candidate?

If Lieberman ends up being McCain's running mate he could have the distinction of losing two elections in four years as the VP candidate for two different parties. Has such a loser ever passed through our election history before?
Joey Lieberman, man that j e w is mashugana.
On the other hand, there may not be that much of a difference between a jew and a muslim after all. A jewish court has decided that a married man is allowed to have a child with another, unmarried, woman, he plans to marry after his divorce, and even if he does not intend to marry her, through in vitro fertilization and he does not have to tell the woman he is married to. Also, under Torah law, apparently, a man may have adulterous affairs with as many unmarried women as he desires, John Edwards, take note.
It may not be all that relevant in today's world, whether or not a President of this nation is nationalistic and has the interest of the U.S. population at heart. The facts, in reality, have nothing to do with that. As a citizen I do not hear much out of McCain's mouth that makes me hopeful that my situation will improve. He is after U.S. interests, which may not be national. In fact, they are most likely not national at all. On the other hand, I do hear from Barack how he proposes to change a few things that will make the life of Joe and Joelle Average a little easier, and less dependent on foreign nations and their energy supplies.
Question Posed: "Does Joe Lieberman not realize that he is using one of the oldest anti-semitic tricks in the book to accuse Obama of being the Islamic candidate?"
I'd say- "Yes, he does realize it."
my computer must be broken,i could not find anywhere in this post that shows joe liebermans words ust because he believes that mccain has more experience than obaba doesnt i would love for someone to show me where these sentiments come from
refer to any religion.j
show any anti semantic rhetoric, and how does what leibermans worsd paint obama as in islamic canditate.
Ok, well it seems you don't get it. Did you try? le... they just happened to all be jews.)
The _whole point_ was that this kind of 'unpatriotic' smear has been used historically to cloak anti-Semitism. (Stalin didn't persecute 'jews'.. he persecuted 'cosmopolitans' who's allegience to the Soviet state was questionab
Lieberman is clearly guilty of spreading that 'unpatriotic' smear by stating, in no uncertain terms, that Obama would not put 'country first'. That much is beyond dispute.
That, in turn, raises the question of what Lieberman thinks Obama would be putting first, if not his country. Marty's point would be that it's playing on the 'secret Muslim' conspiracy theory.
Thanks for the response. And Lieberman puts the country of Israel first.
Let's just say America would be better off if Republicans would put Country First before Party. 'Nuff said.
is the secret muslim conspiracy like being on double secret probation??even if you do not agree with the position maybe his comments just echo the opinion that the only thing obama cares about is winning the election and will put himself above the country by modulitating his beliefs and positions to garner the most support.so metimes things are exactly whst they seem to be and not shrouded in secret conspirici es.obama is an opportunist that changes his position at the drop of a hat(fisa, campaign finance, offshore drilling0just to name a few
Larry, please explain, then WHY Lieberman didn't just say he BELIEVED McCain has more EXPERIENCE? I don't think he used the "country first" bit by mistake, or for lack of better wording. It is an intentional, yet subtle, way of insinuating that Obama is "unamerican". Lieberman did not present his statement as a matter of opinion, he stated it as a matter of FACT. Since he has presented no facts, why are we to assume that his comments are innocent?
Oh, and for the record, no where in his comments does he mention that he simply thinks McCain has more "experience" as you put it...so I guess my computer must be broken also.
until you get your computer fixed here it is
"John McCain, who's had experience, been tested in war and tried in peace, another candidate who has not. "
Joe still hasn't figured out that he is just a TOOL being used by the Ne0C0ns
Refraise that a "MOney making tool"!
Joe had to be dumped long while ago.
Is it really worth all that talking about Joe?
If pundits stop mentioning his name he slowly fades away....
I find it interesting that the Dems dropped Joe, but then Joe won his election anyway. Maybe the people know something the party doesn't.
awe common now there is nothing there and you know it so quit looking, Bush was elected twice wasn't he? See? Lieberman is a loser and so is McCain and America will bear the consequences IF he gets elected POTUS. The rise and fall of the United States done in by lies and deceit and racial prejudices.
Actually he won in Connecticut because he was known, huge advantage. Lots of people thought he was a Democrat, the Republicans voted for him. Your notion that "the people" supported him could use a little looking into.
The Republicans voted Joe into office during his failed bid for the Democratic Senate seat. Unfortunately, the Senate needs Smokin' Joe until January '08.
I hope that McC really is one-dimensional enough to pick Joe as his running mate.
Lieberman wants to be Secretary of State.this would put him in the best possible position to declare war on Iran and Syria.it's bad enough Sen.Joe represents the state of Israel more than he does Connecticut but imagine the damage he could do as Secretary of State!
Secretary of State can't declare war any more than the president can. What he can do is make a war much more likely. It all depends on how far he is willing to go. with Lieberman I think he would push it as far as he could. He is just another chickenhaw k., he never served but thinks a war is just wonderful for other people's children.
Sure he knows....h e just doesn't care if you know. He is counting on there being enough lazy disinterested foolish bigots as there were the times Bush was elected (sort of) twice. Let's hope he is wrong this time.. Lieberman dragged down the Gore candidacy. Let's hope he does the same for McCain.
When you list a quote from Lieberman, does it need to be typed really slowly so it matches his deadpan Quaalude like speaking style?
OMFG - Lmao!!!!!!!!!!!!
Poor Lieberman and McCain are the oddest couple that I have ever seen...but their relationship will go kaput after November.. .
Lieberman is very much like the fabled wandering Jew.
The democrats have thrown him out of the party and the republicans are manipulating him for their own purposes, they are hoping for another traitorous speech at their convention, like Zell Miller delivered against Kerry.
He will soon be aimlessly wandering the halls of congress without a friend in the world.
He will always have Bibi.
As any person who has been half-awake during this "campaign season," I am apalled at the hatred and divisiveness spewing from McCain & Co. McCain's ad hominem attacks on Barack Obama lift the curtain on the real McCain. Putting "Country First" means supporting ideas, perspectives, legislation and behavior that benefits the greater good of Americans. McCain refuses to even entertain, let alone admit, the sham of the Iraq War. I think the $85 billion of no-bid contracts to rebuild Iraq after we destroyed it is shameful. More shameful than that is the loss of American lives, allies' lives and more than 50,000 Iraqi lives. The neo-cons are more concerned about protecting the unborn, who don't even exist, than the people already on the planet, already part of the fabric of our communities. The farce of the McCain campaign, the lies and the bitter offense is exactly what our country doesn't need at this dangerous and delicate time in history. What a lie. McCain doesn't put country first; McCain puts McCain first and to hell with anyone else. McCain is true to form. He wants to debate the issues. The only issue he offers is the Oval Office at any cost.
"As any person who has been half-awake "...poor assumption.
These are the same citizens that think Obama's a Muslim because of his funny middle name regardless of the TRUTH. And think Gay marriage on the ballot was a good enough reason to wheel themselves from the trailer park and vote against their own interests in '04. Notice how you see American and stupid in the same sentance ..a lot. Here and through out the world. There's a reason for that image.
Joe Liarman always puts country first. The country of Israel.
Good for you, wilburrog. I'm glad someone finally said what should be obvious to everyone.
Joe Lieberman always puts Joe Lieberman first.
