Mary Gordon is a writer and the McIntosh Professor of English at Barnard College. She the author of four bestselling novels. She has also published a book of novellas, a collection of stories, and a book of essays.

In 2007 she published the critically acclaimed memoir Circling My Mother, and in 2009 she published Reading Jesus: A Writer's Encounter with the Gospels, a work of non-fiction that approaches the Gospels from a literary perspective.

She has received a Lila Acheson Wallace Reader's Digest Writer's Award and a Guggenheim Fellowship. She was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2007.
