Climate Change This Week: Climate Change Clout, Permafrost Peril and More!

Climate Change Changed Election reported Doughlas Fischer at the Daily Climate, noting that most Congressional candidates targeted for their denial of climate change or anti-clean energy stance lost in the 2012 elections, while those designated "climate heroes" by environmental groups mostly prevailed. Climate change clout at its best!

Long gone but not forgotten: a blue butterfly that settled on my pack in tropical Ecuador.

Melting Permafrost Could Spark Uncontrolled Global Warming a new study indicates, reports Bob Berwyn at the Summit Voice via Climate Progress. Though the fuse might be lit by human-driven warming, the amount of released carbon would be large enough to create its own global warming cycle, independent of human influence. Do you sense any urgency in stopping this?

Catastrophic 8 Degree Fahrenheit Global Heating Much More Likely by 2100 says a new NASA-funded report, reports Brian Vastag at the Washington Post. Just how catastrophic is that? Up til now, many scientists agreed that a 2 degree warming would unlease catastrophic climate change, and, say, did you notice the catastrophic droughts and hurricanes we've already had in 2012? Now, imagine... and start pressuring Congress to MOVE on clean energy!

Divest Da Buggahs! says Bill McKibben about the rogue fossil fuel companies that continue to pollute with impunity, reports Craig Welch at the Seattle Times. McKibben notes that Exxon alone spends $100,000,000 (no typo) daily to search for even more fossil fuels that, if burned, will warm the Earth far more catastrophically. Feel the climate change, and then start marching....

Switching to Clean Energy Just Got Easier with the invention of a new circuit breaker for high voltage direct current, easing the long-distance transfer of water, wind and solar power, reports the Associated Press at Yahoo News. Now we just have to work on switching on the political will...

Do you know of a good video or graphic connected with climate change? Do you have a cool "Every day is Earth Day" nature picture of yours you'd like to share with us? Put a weblink to it in the comments section below, and we'll see if we can post it.

Every day is Earth Day, folks, as I was reminded by these butterflies in an Ecuadorian rainforest a few years back. Making the U.S. a global clean energy leader will ensure a heck of a lot more jobs, and a clean, safe future. If you'd like to join the increasing numbers of people who want to TELL Congress that they will vote for clean energy candidates you can do so here. For more detailed summaries of the above and other climate change items, audio podcasts and texts are freely available.
