Did
you know that there were actually polls on the Internet this week
talking about if Michelle Obama should've worn shorts on her recent
trip to the Grand Canyon? I've said before that Mrs. O is a recessionista, with her clothes from the Gap, J. Crew and H&M. So it seems that her shorts were just a natural evolution of her style. Sure, she is the First Lady, but it's been
hotter than Hades (old world term for Hell) there and around most of
the country. So yes, I think she had the right to be comfortable.
According to Huffington Post, they received 13,000 opinions on
Michelle's shorts. In their survey , 59% of readers said she was
looking just fine in those shorts. Some readers thought maybe the
shorts could've been longer, but c'mon she wasn't running around in
Daisy Dukes ala Jessica Simpson.
What I found even funnier than
Michelle wearing the shorts, was President Obama not wearing them. He
knew what might happen after the tempest in a teapot unleashed over his
"Mom Jeans." There he was standing overlooking the Grand Canyon in 100
degree temps in his long pants. I mean this is out there in Arizona
people! That's the desert. Being President is a lonely thing. I mean
the guy literally has to sweat it out in the court of public opinion.
The President stays covered up even in Arizona
Readers: do you wear shorts in the summer? Do you think that world leaders should be allowed to wear shorts? I think JFK wore them when he went sailing off Cape Cod.
PS--If I had Michelle's legs, I would be wearing the shorts! :)

Shocking.
But aesthetics aside, the ridiculous uproar in 'some' circles was beyond absurd. I've even read comments suggesting that the uproar itself is proof that the First Lady shouldn't have worn the shorts and indicates that she doesn't care about her position. My response to that is that every First Lady is afforded the opportunity to put HER stamp on the position, and to shape her own image /legacy /message.
While it may not have been the outfit of some peoples' choosing, it was obviously the choice of the First Lady. And in her casual attire, she sent several messages: I'm confident, I'm fit, and even as First Lady, I'm STILL my own woman. That message, more than any other, is what seems lost in this entire debate.
MO's outfit here - including the dreaded shorts - was awful.
One need not look gross to be comfortable and cool. With the endless array of shorts/skorts/skirts on this planet, why on earth should our FLOTUS think nothing of wearing these greyish-blech, ill fitting, too-short shorts? She is FLOTUS!! She is not doing laundry!! She is deplaning from Air Force One!! She will be seen around thw world!! That's the gig, and it comes with certain parameters, period. She ignores them at her own peril.
As I mentioned in another comment, the saving grace with this get-up is at least we were not treated to oft-present camel toe. OTOH, these shorts were so ill-fitting that she seemed to be wearing a codpiece.
Gawdalmighty, would her chief of staff PLEASE intercede, MO is an almost-contant fashion emergency!!
