Alabama Women for Obama Seek Refuge at Debate Watch

The invitation read: ARE YOU AN OBAMA SUPPORTER AND WONDERING IF THERE ARE OTHER LADIES OUT THERE THAT SUPPORT HIM, TOO?

I have been riding around town with an Obama sticker for months now. When I run into friends that see my sticker or the pin on my purse they are cheered to see that there are others out there that support him. I thought it might be fun to just have a ladies get together to see the diverse group of supporters that he has here on the Eastern Shore. You might not realize there are others with the McCain-Biden signs that are popping up. It just dawned on me that we might all like to get together and just see who else is supporting him. This is not a campaign rally in the sense of speakers, and a meeting, just a chance for friends to get together. The best spot I have found for such an occasion is Fly Creek Café and the date is Thursday, October 2nd. I stopped by there this afternoon and the lady that I talked to thought it was a great idea. There is plenty of room and people can buy whatever they want to drink there at the bar or get something to eat if they choose. They have tables outside in front of the Cafe. The debate will be at 8 that night so my thought was for people to come by between the hours 5:30 and 7:30 and just enjoy one another's company.

Please forward this to any of your lady friends that you think might want to attend. Obama 08

We arrived on one of the loveliest fall evenings imaginable. Fly Creek is a marina and restaurant in our small town of Fairhope, Alabama. My friend and I had no idea what would greet us upon arrival so to say we were amazed to see cars cramming the parking lot would be an understatement. We got in line for our refreshments and to our further amazement found almost 175 ladies sporting Obama buttons and tee shirts. It was wonderful to commune with so many attractive women of all ages and walks of life - to know that you are not only compatitable with them but - wonder of wonders - you share a political ideology as well. Making the statement that an African American president in the heart of the confederacy is not only okay with everyone but that they are excited about Obama as a person.

All of the attendants had driven the streets and roads in their cars decked out with Obama/Biden bumper stickers; put signs in their yards, only to have them stolen multiple times which is the case in this small southern hamlet when you don't agree with the Republican majority. We were all feeling isolated and slightly depressed within the confines of our very red state. I am a senior citizen but I'm sure my eyes were filled with childish wonder as I made my way through the crowd, greeting and getting to know this wide spectrum of the female populace who are progressive enough to vote their choice in a landscape that still rings with the ghosts of freedom riders who met a violent end.
