Mary McLaughlin
Mary McLaughlin has been blogging as Mom – Not Otherwise Specified and chronicling life with her son Bud, who has autism, since 2005. Her work has also appeared in the book Gravity Pulls You In: Perspectives on Parenting Children on the Autism Spectrum, the websites Hopeful Parents and Science 2.0, and Thrive magazine. Mary works in student affairs and is an adjunct assistant professor at Colby-Sawyer College in New Hampshire. She is currently working on a book designed to help children understand autism, based on her popular blog series “A Hairdryer Kid in a Toaster-Brained World.”

This week, the CDC announced the current autism prevalence rates -- now 1 in 68 children. Next week will bring the start of another media-drenching Autism Awareness Month. So, right now, I'm bracing myself for the probable onslaught of the kinds of news reports and opinion...
