The End of Prohibition?

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

Howard Wooldridge, a retired Michigan police officer, rode his horse Misty across the U.S., talking to groups like Rotary clubs, Kiwanis, churches, Elks lodges, John Birch societies, and media about the failure of the so-called War on Drugs.

What are the advantages and disadvantages to legalizing drugs? What would happen to international drug cartels? How would it affect the work of law enforcement? How many people are actually addicted to drugs? What is the nature of the political opposition to even having a rational conversation on the subject?

Listen to my podcast on the Santa Fe Radio Cafe, as I speak to Howard Wooldridge of LEAP (Law Enforcement Against Prohibition) here.

I agree we should stop the war on drugs but then I also think there is a long litany of these kinds of efforts such as war on terror, war on illegal slavery, war on hate crimes, war on polluters...it's a tactic used by both sides because it's appealing to the simple minded and those who wish to be simple minded..presumably because the complex discussion takes time away from watching sports and shopping or reading scripture or one sort or another. We all have concepts we fear. For some it's drugs, for others it's hate crimes or sexual predators or ..well, fill in your favorite group you despise, but in all these cases it's about "concepts" and "crusades" and "being righteous".
We have a very effective and comprehensive tool with which to deal with problems, the constitution and the bill or rights. Let's educate ourselves on those and end the self deception that new laws are needed and reaffirm and rearm the simple and direct reasoning that created the foundation on which we've built our society.

Uncle Sam recently removed the ban on absinthe, which was in effect since the turn of the (last) century.

It's time to stop POURING TRILLIONS into a "war on drugs" that ENRICHES
ex-CIA guys, mercenaries, the mafia, gangs, drug entrepreneurs and
rips off America's tapayers.

WE LOST THAT WAR AND WE LOST TRILLIONS.
STOP THE INSANITY.

It's time to end the waste of money on a prohibition that never worked.
