County by county, New Mexico is struggling toward marriage equality. At last count, six counties are issuing licenses to gay and lesbian couples. A judge ordered a seventh, Los Alamos, to issue licenses as well, but the county clerk has so far refused.
Ultimately, the matter will probably have to be settled by the state Supreme Court. That could happen this week -- or a resolution may come much more slowly. There's a lot of uncertainty surrounding the law in New Mexico, so it's impossible to predict what will happen next.
Meanwhile, Pennsylvania is going to court to settle a county-by-county approach to equality. There's new polling in Ohio. And lawmakers in Hawaii could pass a marriage bill this fall -- but only if they can muster enough support for a special session.
