"And so to the year's brightest new talent: the pocket-sized Welsh girl with the voice of a '60s soul diva. Move over Amy Winehouse..." --Q Magazine

I just got my hands on an album sampler from Duffy the other day and lucky, lucky me. I had heard about her from various sources, but it was last Saturday afternoon when I first heard her voice. I was listening to Anne Litt's show on KCRW.com. She just played a Dusty Springfield song and then suddenly I heard a new song called "Warwick Avenue". Something inside told me that was her. That was Duffy and I was blown away.

I went online to learn that she's from a small town in North Wales and made her new album with former Suede guitarist and record producer Bernard Butler. Her sound is definitely inspired from an earlier era, but she's put a new spin on it that cuts through all the other musical clutter. "Mercy" is the first single here and in the U.K. and it's super catchy. I'm sure it will soon be climbing up the charts. Check out the video below. She probably should thank artists like Amy Winehouse for opening the doors for her and her sound, but I think she'll set her own course.

Right now, all I have is this five song sampler. I'll have to keep playing that over and over again until her album ROCKFERRY is available here on May 13.

Check out Duffy. It's so worth the listen.
