Matt Rand joined Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) in May of 2012 to be the Senior Director of Campaigns in the oceans program. Matt will work with the fishing industry and government officials to find win-win solutions that ensure healthy fish populations and also benefit fishermen.

Before joining EDF, Matt was the Director of Global Shark Conservation for the Pew Environment Group and worked 10 years for the National Environmental Trust. There he managed the Conserve Our Ocean Legacy campaign, which reformed the marine conservation requirements in the Magnuson-Stevens Act, the nations fishery law and led a campaign to oppose biotechnology in agriculture.

Matt is an avid recreational fishermen and diver.
