While some of this year's Oscar nominees in the four acting categories have never been in a bad film (Colin Firth, Annette Bening) or are too young to have any stains on their careers (Jennifer Lawrence, Hattie Steinfeld) several others have had some missteps along the way. Remember, everyone has a past.

Christian Bale in 'Captain Corelli's Mandolin'

I bet you didn't know Christian Bale was in 'Captain Corelli's Mandolin.' Maybe that's why he's so angry all the time.

Granted, I'm a Colin Firth fan, but even I have to admit that he was in a few turkeys early in his career. Anyone remember "Femme Fatale" with Lisa and Billy Zane?

Both 'Tron' and 'Tron: Legacy' were awesome. Never fault an artist for doing something for pure fun reasons.

Unless it's truly offensive like 'Planet of the Apes' was.

Haven't seen Tron Legacy yet, but I loved the original one, I don't think Jeff Bridges should ever regret making it! But I agree Natalie Portman in a silly romcom with Ashton is a bad career choice for someone aiming at an academy award...

Wow, somebody is in a bad mood. Not every movie is Casablanca.

Quality Article. Well written. Well documented.

Superb, A-Class Journalism.

Okay, Planet of the Apes was bad.
But Helena Bonham Carter was a rather pretty ape-girl. :>
05:21 AM on 01/28/2011
Yes she was! I was an extra in that movie and she was fun to be around.
11:42 AM on 01/28/2011
I was more turned on by Helena in this movie than the half naked blond human girl. I've been in therapy ever since.

What about Jeff Bridges in Stick It?
12:44 AM on 01/28/2011
the first tron was a good movie. technically and era wise. there are much worse films.
11:32 PM on 01/27/2011
Come on... Colin Firth was in that stinker, The Lat Legion!

True. I am a big Colin Firth fan and I agree that was a stinker!

Colin Firth has never been in a bad film? As much as I adore him, it took quite a while to get the image of him in those tight leather pants as the dad in the Amanda Bynes movie "What a Girl Wants." Perhaps not a dreadful movie ... but I think you could have included it in your "bad choice" list.

You lost me when you dissed OG Tron. Sorry man, that's a classic.

I agree! Bridges has NOTHING to be ashamed of there.
06:33 PM on 01/27/2011
Come on, most of those movies weren't horrible. Ben Kingsley has been in more stinkers than good films.
05:00 PM on 01/27/2011
Jeff Bridges most embarrassing project was definitely that King Kong remake. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sC75aU47GRk

So what? Acting is their JOB, just as writing snarky articles is other people's. James Franco in particular has done several worthy films, as has Michelle Williams. Why don't you point that out?
12:16 PM on 01/27/2011
I haven't even seen most of those movies, so I'll reserve commenting on them. But, very few actors are going to begin their career on a Citizen Kane.
