There's been quite a lot written about the shameful passage of Proposition 8 in California, but it's now being reported that James Dobson's ministry, Focus on the Family, which spent well over half a million dollars fighting to take away the right of homosexuals to marry, is being forced to lay off 202 of it's employees.
In all, Focus pumped $539,000 in cash and another $83,000 worth of non-monetary support into the measure to overturn a California Supreme Court ruling that allowed gays and lesbians to marry in that state.
We have obtained exclusive video footage of Dobson addressing the controversy. Take a look.
The truth is, spreading hate and intolerance is a business just like anything else. And in business, sometimes you're forced to make tough choices.
I'm sure the fine Christian soldiers who were fired are thrilled to be martyrs for the cause. When their children ask them why there aren't any Christmas presents this year, they can proudly tell them it's because God wants to keep gay people from being married.
When the clerk at the unemployment office asks them why they were let go, they can say because marriage is between a man and a woman.
And I'm sure that all the donors to Focus on the Family are proud that Dobson and company's "focus" was forcing their definition of "family" on everyone else, rather than taking care of actual families.

Will the EX "Focus" employees connect-the-dots?
But it STILL boggles my mind that ANY Queer American puts up with this persecution from an oppressive religion....AND they accept that US LAW affirms this insanity! (maybe I'm just nuts)

Thank you, sir!
Running the numbers. $539K + $83K = $622K.
$622K / 202 = $3,080. Is Dobson running a sweatshop? What kind of income is that?
As a gay atheist, I feel really bad for these people, many of them well intentioned but incredibly misled by people who are suckered by these well-educated, wealthy "leaders" to use and discard them. I hope this changes what they think of the Dobson-empire, particularly when there are soon to be no more jobs...

In fairness, I imagine they were being paid more. But, it clearly shows where the ministry's "focus" is.
this is a tough subject for me, I am not for gay marriage but as a thinker I still voted against prop 8 after taking some time think about it. If I had known this was an Amendment to the California constitution I wouldn't have taken any time to vote against it despite my feelings about the Issue.
This issue has already been struck down by the California supreme court and it is obvious to any thinker that this will end up in the U.S. Supreme Court where it will be decided. Voting for prop 8 just slows that down. Let it go to the Supreme Court where i believe Gay Marriage will be struck down. My problem is the Amendment does not put Civil Unions with equal benefits on the table and talks about the sanctity of marriage. If that is true between one man and one woman then that amendment means you can only be married once unless you are a Widow. If we are going down this road there are consequences!

Well, I'm glad you voted against it.
I think this may be a way to bleed James Dobson dry financially - keep getting same sex marriage on the ballot in liberal states where he will feel compelled to spend money. His contributions have been decreasing over the years. He won't be able to keep up.
As much as he so vehemently rails against gay marriage, it just seems a little Haggard-esque to me. I think some good investigative journalists should make their way to Colorado Springs and start digging. They are probably already there. Good luck to them!

That's funny. At least something "positive" can come of this? (except for the people who are now jobless)
