As you're probably aware, MSNBC correspondent Pat Buchanan has been on a racist tear as of late. Tossing out ignorant and hate filled gems as he attempts to rip apart the Supreme Court nomination of Sonia Sotomayor.
This past Thursday, MSNBC's Rachel Maddow had Pat on her show, where they had a long discussion about how Pat thinks the white man is the true victim of racism in America.
He defended his statements by saying, "This has been a country built, basically, by white folks."
Well, white folks...and their slaves.
Near the end, Rachel said that Pat was "living in the 50's". Little did she know how right she was.
As shown in this video, it turns out Pat is literally trapped in the 1950's and only Rachel can save him. Take a look.

Very funny stuff, Matthew! Although, if I ever woke up to find ol' P.B. floating over my bed, I'd be calling a 'free-lance exorcist' (bless you, Father Guido, where ever you are)..! ;) ...

Thanks, CynAnne!
I know I shouldn't H-A-T-E...However, I'm so close to that when I even THINK about him!
MSNBC has got to make a choice it's either Pat or a BIG portion of viewers. The choice is theirs!
It's funny when people say, "Let's go back to the good ole days of the 50s". I often cringe when I go to a Denny's restaurant (they have a history. . . ) and see 50s themed posters and pics on the walls. Even some of the McDonald's, Carl's Jr.s, and many other places do the same thing. Makes you remember blacks weren't allowed to eat at such places without entering the backdoor, at special set times or while being confined to a certain area. This was also instructive in the original "Back to the Future" 80s movies, the token black janitor turned town mayor aside.
Every era looks upon the era before it as a simpler, more wholesome time even though that previous era had its own complications and troubles. You should give PLEASANTVILLE a viewing for even more on the subject.
You mean "figuratively" stuck in the 1950's…since Buchanan is not ACTUALLY living in in the 1950's, Pat can't "literally" be there....

In the cartoon, he is. You should watch.
Below are the contributions that Buchanan refuses to acknowledge,
Here's a quote from just one of the many websites on the subject of black soldiers in the Civil War:
By the war"s end 40,000 black soldiers had died, the majority from disease. Although initially reluctant to commission black officers, the Union government eventually commissioned eighty black military officers. Eighteen black soldiers were given the Medal of Honor for their heroic service.

Even before the civil war, the slave labor of South was a major factor iin the commercial and industrial development of the United States, both North and South. People of color have contributed to the building of the United States in so many ways - not to mention the fact that it was built on land stolen from Native Americans and Mexico. Buchanan's reading them out of history is just one of the BIG LIES that are used to sell racism. From: HP blogger.
When people are aware of their history, the justifcations for hate will diminish.
Technically, Buchanan is right. If you construct a system of unequal power relations based on a ficticious notion of biological race to build a nation, you get the credit when that nation is built. Seems fair on its face. Do you have any idea how difficult it was for white people to order around all those Blacks, Chinese, Mexicans, etc.? (I have Mexican heritage and believe me, I'm not easy to control by any means.) Not to mention the pesky stubborn Natives who had to be physically "removed" to make way for the white man's nation-building projects.
Ergo, if you're a successful minority, then you are by definition a "reverse racist", since you are exploiting the system that it took white people centuries of hard work to put together. Somewhere is a poor white guy named Biff living in a trailer because you took the spot he deserved by birthright. While your ancestors toiled and died in the fields and work camps, Biff's ancestors did the truly hard work of ordering them around, a system which you now unashamedly exploit (in a reverse sort of way). You ingrate!
I understand Pat Buchanan, He is just another scarred white man. This is what racism is - Fear.
White men of his generation are fearful. They see their generation of white priviledge, justifications and hypocrisy being dismantled before their eyes. They have a deep seated fear of losing their power. In their world blacks, hispanics and other minorities are below them, even despite their accomplishments. They think simply being white makes them superior. They feel entitled because god made the white and male. They consistently dismissed the historically contributions of others because it makes them feel good about who they are.
They also have a fear of reverse discrimination. They think that once blacks and hispanics are power, they will be on the other side of discrimination, fear of being treated like second class citizens. They fear their hate will be turned against them. They fear the payback.
Your post is so right on. I believe, however, that white men have been afraid for a longtime...not just of late. Their fear, of late, is all over the place regarding Sotomayor and the POTUS. A critical question for republican senators, again and again, is whether Sotomayor is going to make decisions based on race. I am still waiting for someone to ask these senators if they are afraid Sotomayor is going to base her decisions on race in the same way that the majority of white men have been basing their decisions on race for a very long time. The civil rights movement has been about upholding the constitution and what we know is that having only white men in positions of power doesn't fulfill the statement that all men are created equal. I still have a bad taste in my mouth regarding Clarence Thomas's seating as he is just another white supreme court judge. What a slick move that was.
It is amazing how Pat forgets the slaves who were forced over here, families torn apart, were beaten and died building this country. Someone is rewriting their own history.
No rewrite required.
It's always been that way, in his mind.
As far as he's concerned, white men got ahead on their own merits.
Everybody else is invisible. The exist only insofar as they maintain his lifestyle. Their efforts are literally taken for granted, like the foundation of a house. That the house is standing is taken for granted; he doesn't think about the foundation. Nor does he ever wonder how he got such a nice house.
Reminds me of that rich mansion owner in The Color Purple (and his real-life modern analogues), so proud of himself for being such a responsible householder, and running such a tight ship... and never thinking of the army of brown people who REALLY maintain it all-- cleaning rugs, trimming hedges, cooking meals, doing laundry, etc.

Thank you ! He belongs on Faux.
Buchanan encourages folks to get out their pitchforks...see Palin supporters
Pat is stuck in the pre sixties, where everything was separate. Bet he was a clan (closet) member. He is dated and should move into retirement somewhere, maybe an Eastern European country or if they don't want him, just fall on his sword, it would be the right thing to do.
It's tempting to make light of this behavior, but it's a seriously disturbing trend -- and it's not coincidental. Right-wingers and racists are much bolder now as they seek to push the envelope of what they can get away with in public. Almost every day some Republican thug in Congress is "caught" making a blatantly racist remark, and he or she in effect giggles and says: "So? What are you going to do about it?"
And they have a point. The media have become so splintered that extremists -- even those who hold government positions -- are not afraid of them anymore. A Gov. Sanford or Sen. Ensign can be caught canoodling and still say: "So? What are you going to do about it?"
Buchanan and others are going further. They want to make racism fashionable and politically rewarding again like it was decades ago. That it turn would fuel the white power movement and Christian extremist movements that are working hand in hand to destroy other races and religions. The conservative talking heads on TV are just leading the way.
lol. the only thing surprising about pat buchanan's comments are that people for some reason are still surprised by them. he's been consistently racist for most of his lifetime. why anyone would still give this guy a platform to spew from is beyond me.

True. It's not really surprising. Glad you liked it.
I totally agree! I can't stand to watch any program he is on EVER! YAGGGHHH!!!
Shhhh!!!
Don't let him know ...
The likes of him drive democratic voters to voting booths in droves.
See Matthew Filipowicz's Profile
I guess that's true.
Absolutely Buchanan drives people to vote against those whose ideas encompass what he stands for. He is a perfect example of anachronism. I lived through the 50s. Not fun times.
But then again, if others do what I do, they change the channel whenever he's on TV. That means fewer viewers for the programs that exhibit his incredibly unhealthy, unhelpful, limiting mindset. Some of those shows, I believe, are showcasing him for the reason you pointed out. Tricky business for the advertisers.
