Matthew Owen is the director of Cool Earth, the U.K.-based non-profit organization founded in 2007 to secure endangered Amazon rainforest and prevent its continued destruction from accelerating global warming.
Matthew began his career in public affairs at London’s Institute of Community Studies, becoming the founding director of a school-age childcare program called “Education Extra.”
After leaving the Institute, Matthew went to work as a key aide to long time Member of Parliament Frank Field, with whom he co-authored the works Europe Isn't Working (1994), Beyond Punishment (1994) and Making Sense of Pensions (1993), as well as several other pieces on issues facing British public policy.
After leaving the office of the MP, Matthew served as an analyst for the investment banking firms Morgan Stanley, HSBC Securities and Robert Fleming & Co. until he was recruited to be the director of CBS Research in London.
Returning to his roots, Matthew joined Frank Field once again in 2007 when Field and fellow MP Johan Eliasch founded Cool Earth to create a unique climate change solution.
Matthew is a graduate of St. Catherine’s College, Oxford, and the Exeter School and currently resides in London with his wife and three children.
