Be Like Tina, Amy, Mindy and Zooey in 2013

In 2013, one of my New Year's resolutions is to be like my favorite funny girls: Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Mindy Kaling and Zooey Deschanel.

My first post of 2013! A new year means a new you and new goals. I've made my list of New Year's resolutions, which ranges from apologizing when I feel like I should to trying a new non-coffee Frappuccino every time I go to Starbucks (there's a secret menu, just in case you didn't know).

But after realizing how much of a couch potato I am and my ardent adoration for 30 Rock, The Mindy Project and Parks and Recreation, I've decided to add to my list of resolutions (which are duly noted for easy reference in my Blackberry, naturally).

My 2012 was wonderful. I graduated from NYU, I interned at ELLE magazine and I rode on an elephant for the first time in my life, just to name a few of the highlights. But my 2012 wasn't always wonderful. I dealt with tough times and I ended the year with a broken heart and with a lot of tears.

But 2013 is my year. It's your year. So in 2013, one of my New Year's resolutions is to be like my favorite funny girls: Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Mindy Kaling and Zooey Deschanel. Tina and Amy are like BFFs, as are Mindy and Zooey, and if I had a dinner party, I'd want all of them to be there. It would be the funniest, cutest and quirkiest dinner party ever.

So, without further ado, here's why we should channel our inner Tina, Amy, Mindy, and Zooey in 2013:

1. Tina Fey

Oh Tina Fey. I've loved her ever since I first watched her on Saturday Night Live, both in sketches and on "Weekend Update" (and she was head writer, which made her even more awesome than she already was to me). I've been watching 30 Rock since the beginning and Liz Lemon has been and will always be one of my favorite TV show characters ever. She wrote the screenplay and starred in the amazingness that is Mean Girls and her performance as Claire Foster in Date Night is one of the many reasons why I love that movie. I mean, her chemistry with Steve Carell? Her scenes with Mark Wahlberg? Fantastic. Plus, she's like the girl crush of a lot of my friends, and that's totally understandable.

This year, be inspired by Tina's career accomplishments and be as funny and awkward as Liz Lemon (as the 30 Rock clip below demonstrates). Also, read Tina's New York Times bestselling book Bossypants, which I have yet to read myself, but I really want to this year.

2. Amy Poehler

Tina's SNL alum/NBC Thursday night friend/BFF/co-host of this year's Golden Globes, is someone who like Tina, I've been watching since she was on SNL. Needless to say, Parks and Recreation is my favorite TV show right now and it has been since it started airing. Like Liz Lemon, we all can relate to Leslie Knope in some form or another... I know I do! We're both perfectionists, we're both ambitious, we can't stand it if people don't like us or have a problem with us, and we always have grand, and most of the time, crazy plans of how to get what we want. There have been some times in the past, whatever the situation may be, where I've placed myself in Leslie's shoes and that's where the grand and crazy plans are made!

Tina and Amy are co-hosting the Golden Globes on Sunday, January 13th (at 8pm EST/5pm PST on NBC) and it's going to be all sorts of funny awesomeness. This year, be as crazy as Amy and as ambitious as Leslie Knope. As a post that I read about being like "TAMY" in 2013 advised, follow these tips to be like Tina and Amy in 2013: get stuff done, don't take yourself so seriously and go beyond yourself. Watch Amy both stand up for women and be hilariously awkward after the jump.

3. Mindy Kaling

To begin with, I love Mindy because she's the only woman on this list that I've personally met. I met her at a Q&A that she was doing in New York City for Us Weekly magazine, where I interned my fall semester of my senior year at NYU. I vividly remember that day because I took a photo with her and told her how much I related to her character Kelly Kapoor on The Office and she was so lovely and nice to me! Subsequently, I got in trouble for talking to her for like five minutes after I took a photo with her, but that's another story.

Like it is with Kelly, I adore Mindy as Dr. Mindy Lahiri on her new show, The Mindy Project, which has become one of my favorite shows on TV. I remember watching the series premiere, laughing a lot during it, and knowing that I would end up loving and following the show. I always tell my family and friends (and I've successfully tweeted to the show's account) that if I ever I have a TV show, it would be exactly like The Mindy Project. My cousin even told me that when she watches the show, she sees a lot of similarities between Mindy and me. There are probably a lot of similarities between Dr. Mindy Lahiri and a lot of you out there. We try to live perfect lives, but life doesn't always pan out the way that we had hoped and planned. Like Mindy, it helps to go through our personal, professional, and love problems with lots of laughter, a bit of awkwardness, and with hope for things to get better and to work out in the future.

Be like Mindy in 2013, watch The Mindy Project if you aren't already, and read her book Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns). To be honest, I haven't read this book either, so perhaps actually reading books that I've been wanting to read for a long time should be added to my New Year's resolutions list. Watch the clip below from The Mindy Project just in case you need further evidence on why the show is so fantastic.

4. Zooey Deschanel

Mindy's BFF/FOX Tuesday night friend Zooey is just one of my favorite people in the world. Her quirkiness, her chic and retro sense of style and her sense of humor helped coin the term "adorkable" to describe her (as well as the other ladies on this list). Although I don't watch New Girl, I know a lot of my family and friends do and they all love the show. I love Zooey because of her fashion sense which I try to emulate, because of the movies that she has been in (like 500 Days of Summer, of course), because of She & Him (her music group with M. Ward), and because of her ability to laugh at herself, like when she hosted SNL last year and was in the "Bein' Quirky with Zooey Deschanel" sketch (watch it below). Also, Zooey is on my list of potential baby girl names, but again, that's another story.

In the end, the best kind of girl is a quirky girl, so embrace your inner Zooey in 2013 and be adorkable.

2013 is my year. It's your year. Be inspired, be quirky, be awkward, be adorkable, be ambitious, be strong, and be yourself. Celebrate your happy memories and triumphs of 2012 when you feel like doing so, leave your problems, tears, and broken hearts of 2012 behind, and look forward to 2013 with hope and optimism for a better and brighter future.

Oh
and read books that you've been wanting to read for a long time...
