A Charge That You Can Keep

It recently surfaced that "A Charge To Keep", a painting that Bush keeps in his office of what he believed was a man leading a group of missionaries (and became the namesake of his autobiography) was actually a painting of a fleeing horse thief. We all got a good laugh out of it, but as many have noted in the past two hours, it didn't stop him from referencing it in his final State of the Union Speech: "All of us were sent to Washington to carry out the people's business. That is the purpose of this body. It is the meaning of our oath. It remains our charge to keep."

Enjoy this little musical response to the SOTU, "A Charge That You Can Keep":

A Charge That You Can Keep

The chamber hits its feet and Nancy claps her hands
The teleprompter feeds you out ideas that I will never understand
Like making permanent our economic grief
But the cuts sound so innocuous when referred to as relief

So if you're framing out your legacy, save it for your library
That dry west Texas land is selling cheap
'Cause since you got us in this mess, the State of the Union more or less is
Paddleless, up a certain creek
That's a charge that you can keep

Like a gambler with one last big bet
Spend whatever capital is left and point familiar fingers east
Again with the uranium, our confidence is next to none
Enough with these rhetorical repeats

We'll check our watch throughout the year, so if you've got some big ideas
We best not let you sell them off so cheap
'Cause since you got us in this mess, the State of the Union more or less
has us paddleless, up a certain creek
That's a charge that you can keep

Good catch, noticing "A Charge to Keep", I hadn't.

So, just in case you ahve figured it out yet, W has a need to showcase his mistakes, and dare you to call him on them. Nuk-ular.

He has this giant chip on his shoulder and has taken it out on us all.

Just trivia, but watch for it in other candidates. Not being willing to admit a mistake signifies an underlying pathology. Rubbing it in your faces is psychotic.

"Save it for your library"

That should be "lie-bury"

The place where he's gonna bury his lies.

I've copyrighted it already.

Awesome! I'm enlightened to see that there's still some talented musicians like yourself who could rise up to the occasion. True art should always reflect the reality around us and you have been doing a fair amount of that. thanks!

This is not just a humorous parody. This is a great song, in the tradition of 60s protest songs, dare i say Bob Dylan?

If you consider that Bushboy and the rest of his horse rustlers consider themselves some sort of religious missionaries [admittedly in a spanish inquisition vein], then it is easy to see why they are clueless.

Take a moment and cherish the thought of what they used to [and still should do] to horse rustlers and their modern counterpart, the industrial military complex.

Hang em high.

Confusing missionaries and other religious types with horse thieves should be considered an honest mistake.
