Consider the Source (A Song and Cartoon for John McCain's Credibility)

It was laughable to watch John McCain, who has proven to either have a bad memory, a problem telling the truth, or both, to ask that we "consider the source" in response to Arianna Huffington's claim that he told her he didn't vote for Bush in 2000. Then again, he doesn't remember who he was back then, so why should he remember what he said either?

This is a man who skirts campaign finance laws by flying around from speech to speech on the Sugar Momma Express, telling people between landings that their economic hardships are largely psychological. He makes repeated misstatements about Iran training Al Qaeda. Loudly denies and later admits quietly to getting into a physical fight with a member of congress. Anytime John McCain opens his mouth, it's worth considering the source.

Enjoy this week's song and cartoon.

(h/t Emptywheel, Paul Waldman)

Consider the Source
As my television box would tell it
You're a trailblazing renegade of sorts
With convictions of steel, a dead even keel
A chara-character tour de force
Denying that you spoke against the king when he ascended
Now that you've followed him along with no remorse
So the next time you call someone a liar, consider the source

I've heard you give a lecture on morals
On integrity, fidelity and more
They fail to mention your carousing with the heiress
Whoever knows how long before your first divorce
You said you never would accept her contributions
As the Sugar Momma Express rides on course
So the next time you call someone a liar, consider the source

7 or 8 years ago I might have less to say
I don't care who you were back then, but who you are today
I don't expect no talking heads to say what you're about
So I'll keep singing all these songs until the truth comes out

They said nothing on the message multipliers
So I won't put a lot of stock in their reports
And indeed there's not a word they've said about you
That's been true since O.J. had his day in court
They'll say nothing of Cindy's missing taxes
Or the pastor you chased down to endorse
So the next time they wax about your honor, consider the source

(The following originally posted to Reuters by me, the author)

Re: "A New York Times story about the spat noted other guests at the party said they also heard McCain's comments.

McCain says it never happened and he was loyal to Bush.

"I voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004," he said in an interview with Fox News' "O'Reilly Factor" that aired on Thursday night.

"And not only that, far more important than a vote, I campaigned everywhere in America for him."

I am a 45-year Republican who, like Mr. McCain voted for Bush in 2000 but, being neither blind nor retarded, did not make that mistake in 2004.

McCain is apparently oblivious to the president's lack of candor and ignorance.
He like the president is intent on jamming democracy down the throats of a people who prefer theocracy.

Not everyone is dying to "live like an American." Many are dying not to and are taking some of us with them. Only Halliburton and its minions stand to benefit from our current course of action.

I guess I'd be more inclined to vote for McCain if he had denied voting for Bush in 2004. IMHO, It would have shown some common sense. -END-

OMG...Why would I vote for someone who denies voting for Bush in 2004, then denies their denial? Where's Pat Paulsen (http://www.paulsen.com) when you need him? Sorry, had to lighten up....facing an acute shortage of presidential timber.

Great video. But suggest they put sub-titles to make it clear for all.

I am sure that John McCain is telling the truth and that he voted for Bush, he's a loyal Republican after all despite his phoney Maverick image.
I am sure also that John McCain also told Ariana and others that he didn't vote for Bush. It's all part of his maverick image, say things that sound cool at the time to get attention from your immediate audience or the attendant reporters, don't worry about whether it's true or whether you really mean it because you'll say something else later to a different audience.

Atp2007 writes, "Say things that sound cool at the time and get attention from your immediate audence or the attendant reporters, don't worry about whether it's true or whether you really mean it because you'll say something else later to a different audience." Who said the following cool thing that got attention from his immediate audience and attendant reporters? "I can no more disown [the Rev. Wright] than I can disown the black community. I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother...." Hint: it's the same guy who said "something else later to a different audience" when he disowned Rev. Wright.

"Loudly denies and later admits quietly to getting into a physical fight with a member of congress."

What the heck are you talking about?

Oh, that. That's already been debunked. That fight didn't happen, according to those who were there.

"This is a man who flouts campaign finance laws by flying around from speech to speech on the Sugar Momma Express"

That was in full compliance with the law as it stood then, and as it stands now.
Why do you say the law was flouted? Are you trying to spread a lie?

not flouted, more like exploiting a loop hole.

I'm a guitar player, not a writer, and misused the word flout. Will correct with the word "skirt". My bad.
